Non-basketball thoughts-Rockets at Bucks

Pretty good crowd, size wise at least.

Mo Williams show with Royal Ivey, nothing too special though.

Bango on a Harley a couple of times.

Clutch, the Houston mascot was there. They had a few skits with Bango eventually laying the hurt on him. I think Clutch was supposed to be a bear but he looked a little like a rat. They also had the Air Clutch (inflatable, whatever you would call them) kind of engulf an energee dancer and the Air Bango came to the rescue.

Herb was wearing a darker jacket. No "middle-aged black man" sitting next to him. Maybe they read about him being mentioned on RealGM last week.

Don't remember seeing or hearing Andrea Williams.

Half time was Tae Kwon Do. Not too exciting.

One of the halftime shootout contestants was fairly hot for a shootout contestant.

Anything else?

I posted this on the post-game thread...but it seems more appropriate for this one...so, here it is:

Why couldn't the Bucks have put on more of a spectacle and made a greater effort to help kick of the Chinese New Year with a bang...hell, it's not everyday that you get Yao vs. Yi in Milwaukee leading up to Chinese New Year. The Bucks could have done so much more for in-game entertainment...especially at half-time. I would've much rather have seen some traditional Chinese drums...or dances...something more relevant to the time of year. Come on. You blew it Milwaukee...you had the opportunity to impress. There were quite a few Chinese dignitaries there as well. It was a disgrace to be honest. I was really pumped up for this game...my dad had two lower level tickets behind the opponent bench...and took me along with him...it was Yao vs. Yi (well, technically Bucks vs. Rockets...but...at least Yi is worth getting excited about)...Chinese New Year is coming up. I guess I should stop having such high expectations for this organization...not even the in-game entertainment is exciting or at least entertaining. :nonono:

She had at least 3 times that she was on the mic last night, 2 of which were related to the midwest best seats in the house.

I'd put the crowd size at 17K. The $ 10 seats had open rows in them, and the upper corners (416, 429, 438, 406) were available as well. Lower bowl looked pretty packed from above.

well it was a sell out so it was more of a good size crowd....

Last night the corporate crowd was there and it was all business.....I don't think many in the crowd figured the Bucks could win, so I didn't sense a whole lot of energy......

I'm assuming that the Bucks got some nice sponsorship dollars from Harley.....Bango not only rode the Harley out but the hoop troop guys wore Harley shirts.....I'm guessing the idea of Harley maybe paying $10,000 (?) for last night and 200 million in Asian markets was a better buy than 3 million dollars for a super bowl ad.

I thought the in game entertainment was pretty good....I think there was a great deal of cultural activities going on in the concourses.....

They did too much Chinese-related stuff as it was. It was actually kind of embarrassing how much they were pandering.

Disagree. You can't pander enough to the 5,000 fans that showed up last night. Unless you think it's a good idea to not give them any reason to come back more often.

Many of the fans that were at the game last night drove up from Chicago, and they're not necessarily Bulls fans. Those people might be interested in attending a few more games per season, to see Yi and/or the Bucks. The Bucks can and should go after those fans.

You are assuming they would like traditional Chinese stuff. If you went to a basketball game in China, would you like it if they started doing American themed celebrations with over the top patriotic music? Keep in mind it would probably be very cheesy and done poorly.

That said, the CCTV5 chinese broadcast has tons of traditional Chinese music, drums, etc...but what do you expect its a gov. station that will go over the top (not sure what chinese viewers think of this).

Fair point. Perhaps if I was an American living in China and I went to a game, I'd want to see the Chinese way of presenting the game, but with some American aspects thrown in too.

In other news, Yi was the player in the middle of the Bucks huddle after the lineups last night:

There was plenty of Chinese angles.

The handed out a Yi poster to fans.

They handed out Chinese New Year buttons with 40th anniversary Bucks logos to fans.

The handed out hundreds of "traditional Chinese envelopes" to fans.

They had a parachute drop with Chinese related stuff in them.

They kept Street Life at home.

Multiple times they handed out small Chinese related souvenirs throughout the stands.

They showed tons of Chinese signs on the jumbo-tron.

They had oriental martial arts as half time entertainment.

They had signs in Chinese on each backstop support.

Good points old skool...I felt the Bucks did a good job catering to the new fans that were in the crowd. Had Yi played a little better I think majority of the fans would have been back earlier than the next Yao vs. Yi matchup. Those new fans that were in the crowd wanted something to cheer about and sadly the Bucks/Yi gave them very little to cheer about on the floor.

I did feel it was a good atmosphere at the start of the game...everyone was into it and the Bradley Center was the 2nd most full it has been all season next to the Home Opener.

There were alot of Chinese fans in the crowd. The most Chinese people I have ever saw at a Bucks game.

This is true. I also don't know if Street Life has been at 1/2 of the home games thus far this season. They've definitely had their schedule cut back by the Bucks.

It was definitely the picture-snapping crowd too...people at their first Yi game as opposed to their 5th or 10th.

Much to the chagrin of "Hey Ya" cover band fans everywhere.

They seriously celebrated everything Chinese by having a Korean martial arts display at half time?

I can just picture Bogut hearing about it in plenty of time, knowing it was Korean and just chuckling to himself and not telling anyone 'cause he thought it would be funny. Damn Bogut.

it's hard to say what is chinese martial art though
cuz it's like the origin of all east asian martial art
other than the monk in shaolian, i can't really think of proper stream, as most of them was destroy prior to ww1 (just wild thought)
