Other Team?

Post#1 » by monitor33 » Tue Feb 12, 2008 2:12 pm

I will start out by saying I still love the Bucks. They are my home town team. I have watched them for 25 years, and I have stood by them through thick and thin.

That said, this has been by far the toughest year I have ever had watching them. Seemingly a good deal of talent, and a total meltdown. I logically know I have to keep supporting them, but my heart is just harder to get into it.

So I ask...Have any of you picked up a second team to root for this year? I have been a bit partial to watching the Blazers, and I like the way Utah plays. It is not the same, but there is just so little to root for on the home front. Portland plays tough, and as a team. And the great part is that so much of their success is from team chemistry. They just gelled and got tough together, unlike the bucks, that whined like bitcches and fell apart.
Displaced Bucks fan. Here in LA, Heart at Kopps.

Suns - Nash deserves a ring.

Celtics - KG deserves a ring.

I've started paying more attention to the Boilermakers - an up and coming college team thriving in a small market.

and my son's 6th grade team. his games cost only $2 and provide a lot more laughs.

and my own fantasy teams. they are well managed.

Im loving the Hornets right now. They have put together a great team and all the pieces compliment eachother nicely.

Paul - Superstar PG who is great at making his teammates look better. Can score 40 points or just have a 5 pt/ 15 ast game and help his team win. Very good defender too.

Peterson - Good defender, role playing SG who is there to knock down threes.

Stojakovic - Their Michael Redd. Overpaid shooter, but he fits in well with the team and is doing a good job putting points on the board and meshing with the 5.

West - Strong, scoring PF who they can hit in the post to get the other teams bigs in foul trouble or get some easy points in the paint or with a nice mid range J. Works very well with Chandler. From what I have seen is a decent defender and has been blocking a few shots lately.

Chandler - Big defensive C, great rebounder and shot blocker and very athletic. Works very well with West and Paul and just finishes lobs all day.

The starting 5 all mesh very well together and have their roles to play, which they do well. Now thats how you put together a team full of good offensive and defensive players. They do have a weak bench though and will need to improve it if they want to have a chance in the playoffs.

Those are my two teams as well (aside from the Bucks). I am dying to see Shaq on the Suns, that is going to be interesting.

Hornets, for sure. Maybe Utah just for Deron. I also like Atlanta, talented young team that seems to be turning it around.

I had been interested in the Raptors, but some of their fans have really turned me off. Way too over the top. Ditto Lakers.

I have always been a big Spurs fan. They play basketball the right way, the best player in the world is on there team (I still don't know how people think anyone is better than Duncan) and they are winners. They play as a team on both ends of the court.

Another team I really enjoy watching more than I just like them is the Lakers. They have just an unbelievable amount of talent and if Kobe keeps playing unselfish basketball they will continue to be very fun to watch.

I don't really cheer for another team as a whole because I feel like that's "cheating" on the Bucks.

However, I do wish individual players because I like their game.

Dwight Howard
Paul Pierce
Rajon Rondo
Devin Harris
Josh Howard
Barbosa
LeBron James
Kirk Hinrich
Josh Smith

On the flip side, there are players that I can't stand.

Tim Duncan
Manu Ginobli
Robert Horry
Dirk Nowitski
Corey Maggette
Tim Thomas
Kobe Bryant
Tayshaun Prince

I've always paid attention to what the Hawks are doing.

I coach two 6th grade teams, so that keeps me quite busy, especially this month with tournaments and all.

LukeP, I totally agree with you on the Spurs!

btw, the bucks will always be my team, even if they eventually move!

I don't root for or follow any other teams per se. However as a basketball fan I do enjoy watching certain players and teams.

Pre-season I picked the Suns to win it all so I will still follow them. My favorite non-Buck to watch for a few years has been Kobe (I expect to get bashed for this) so I've been watching the Lakers whenever possible, especially now that they got Pau.

Otherwise looking forward to NCAA tourney time....

I am not a huge college basketball fan, but I've watched a lot of Derrick Rose this year.

That being said the NCAA tournament is the best post season environment in any sport, IMO. I look forward to it every year and it never disappoints.

Completely agree with you there. I am also rooting for the Suns like most of you. Suns/Celts finals would be awesome.

I used to be a big Suns fan too, because of Nash. Lately though I get very annoyed with them. Everyone seems to always make excuses for them and I just hate some of their players. I think Boris Diaw is garbage, Barbosa is really overrated, Grant Hill doesn't fit the team well and I was extremely disappointed when they traded Kurt Thomas. They just aren't as appealing as they used to be.

I am just a huge Nash fan and have been for a long while. There are actually several teams I like in the west. Hornets, Jazz, Warriors are all fun teams to watch. As a side note, I was watching the Warriors game last night on nbatv and their building was just electric. I don't think I have EVER seen the bradley center like that even when the Bucks made it to the east finals several years ago. GSW have some of the most energetic fans in the NBA.

The Western Conference playoffs are going to be unbelievably fun to watch. There are 10 teams over there competing for playoff spots and everyone one of the 8 that make it to the playoffs has a chance to win it all.
