I'm the one who originally came up with the idea on the TB, so I thought I'd weigh in here on a few of the comments made...
I think you've forgotten on thing with this trade. The blazers still have Steve Blake, and are trying to move Jack because they want to develop Spanish Chocolate (Rodriguez) and open up more court time for him. But just swapping for mo, yes they get an upgrade, but they keep a very crowded backcourt and gain a sf that they don't need. They've already got outlaw, jones and webster.
Jack doesn't seriously effect Sergio's playing time. Sergio effects Sergio's playing time because the truth is, he's just not all that good right now. He's still very young and very raw. He makes mental lapses that really hurt the team and really irritate Nate McMillan. Sergio is a fan favorite for sure, but I don't see the Blazers dumping talent to make room for him. Blake would move into a backup PG role, as I'll point out in a depth chart soon.
Also, Portland's SF spot is not as deep as everyone thinks. It's a common misconception that Outlaw is a SF. He is not. He is the Blazers backup PF. This means that the Blazers SF rotation consists of Jones and Webster. Jones has struggled staying healthy this whole season, meaning that right now, the Blazers only have 1 true SF on the team... Webster.
And as I've brought out on the TB thread, the Blazers aren't taking Simmons because he's a great player of any sort or because they
need him. They're taking him because that is a big incentive for the Bucks to give up Williams. Unless I've incorrectly gaged Williams value to the Bucks, they aren't desperately seeking to get rid of him, are they?
Anyway, here is what Portland's rotation would look like after this deal...
Williams/Blake/Sergio
Roy/Fernandez
Webster/Jones/Simmons
Aldridge/Outlaw/McRoberts
Oden/Przybilla/Frye

No offense, but you got Jack all wrong. His defense is passable... at best. His passing ability is ok, but nothing to write home about. He is ok in a half-court set but absolutely brutal on the fast break. And his 3pt shot? Streaky at best.
Jack is really a undersized slashing SG with decent handles.

The Bucks wouldn't be acquiring LaFrentz because of his on-the-court abilities. They'd be making a move for him because he'll be an expiring contract and save the Bucks a lot of money.

As I alluded to earlier, Jack is not a PG. Right now, he backs up Roy at SG for the Blazers. And when he was recently moved into the starting lineup for a short stint, he started at SG with Blake at PG and Roy at SF.
Green sees absolutely no playing time, he has bounced back and forth from the d-league this year.
And Rodriguez is still VERY raw. His defense is awful and he plays an out-of-control style of basketball that Nate McMillan doesn't care for. He gets some minutes, but they're sporadic at best.
Portland would have a lot of interest in Williams because he's a scoring PG with good handles. The Blazers need someone else besides Roy who can create his own offense. With Roy's playmaking ability and the fact that he initiates the offense so much, they don't need a pure PG to run every single play.

Simmons, like LaFrentz, isn't being brought in because of his "talent". He expires the same time as Darius Miles, meaning Portland would have 2 expiring contracts around 8-9 mil each to trade during the 09/10 season. Those could be very valuable pieces as the Blazers prepare for their championship run.
Also, Outlaw isn't a SF, he's the Blazers primary backup PF.
Simmons would be able to get a few backup minutes at SF, but likely as a 3rd stringer behind Webster and Jones.

That's an EASY no for Portland. Miles for Simmons is too much of a wash for the Blazers to be willing to throw in Jack.
Somehow people got the misconception that the Blazers want Simmons.
They don't. This deal is all about getting Williams to Portland. Taking Simmons is the price I believe Portland would have to pay to get that done. If I'm incorrect, please lemme know. You guys likely have a better grasp on Williams' current value than I do.
