Could our core.....

Post#1 » by DH34Phan » Sun Feb 17, 2008 6:03 pm

....be similar to Bibby/Peja/Webber/Miller of the early 2000's Kings teams?

I know Webber was light years ahead of what Yi is now, but maybe in 2-3 years a team of Mo/Redd/Yi/Bogut could emulate them?

Those Sacramento teams were always fun to watch and had good success.

Your main difference there is that Peja does not demand the ball, and is willing to run off of screens and catch and shoot. You also are forgetting that the sacramento core had a great hustle player Doug Christie.

Redd is not Peja, and we dont have a Doug

Don't forget about Bobby Jackson.

And yeah. Peja never dribbled around with his head down. Was very active running around screens.

Bibby was a much more productive PG than Mo is. He can control his team, get his teammates involved, and knock down the open shot when he needs too. He facilitates the game much better. Peja is a shooter like Redd, but like some people said, he didn't demand the ball, and he didn't hog the ball either when he got it. The only similarity I can see is Miller and Bogut. Both big men that can shoot the ball fairly well, both can pass extremely effective, but are not low post scorers, although Bogut has come a long ways, his consistency is lacking.

The main difference is the Kings had Chris Webber (A top 5 players in the league when the Kings were good) and the Bucks do not.

Give us KG instead of Yi and we are just as good as those old Sacramento teams, IMO.

I also forgot...

It would help to have Adelman is a head coach too. :)

And it seems like the Kings actually tolerated each other.

Webber was an MVP candidate for a couple seasons. Peja was an MVP candidate the season Webber was hurt.

We have no one like that.

Agreed, I like Redd a lot... But at the time the Kings were excelling Peja was playing unbelievable basketball.

Peja at that time > Redd.

I would also sub in Divac for Miller, I think he was there more for the real successful times they had.

I think we are about as good as the product you would see if you put the 2008 version of Bibby/Peja/Webber/Divac on the floor.

But I think that we'll have the same core by the 21st. I look for changes around/during the draft.

Not really. That team was balanced and shared the ball and knew how to get the ball to the guy who had the hot hand. They found ways to win games becasue they played together but never could get past Shaq and the Lakers. They were a dangerous team becasue they had the fundementals down and the rest of the game just came along with their effort. They were a scary team for like 3 years. Drove me nuts. The Bucks will never be the team they were. You have to many guys that dont get along on this team and the leader(redd, if you want to call him that) is one dementional.(Redd) It will never happen.
