OT: Nets/Mavs Deal Complete

Post#1 » by Cold Crush 24 » Tue Feb 19, 2008 6:36 am

The great KVH has agreed to be paid 4 million dollars to sit on an inactive list. The Jason Kidd to Dallas deal is signed sealed and delivered.

Hopefully we won't have to face the mighty DeSagana Diop in the East playoffs!

Excellent deal by an experienced NBA GM in Rod Thorn. Thorn even got two first round picks from Dallas and G Devin Harris.

So what did they really lose in the deal? Kidd?

Please...Devin Harris maybe more suitable for them in the long run, with PG Marcus Williams as his back up!

You added Diop and you added Stromile Swift...and I like Maurice Ager as well...

This is the type of deal the Bucks should me making. Thorn is still one of the best going on...

I believe he wanted to spend time with his family and he was sick of being traded every few years, which forced Keith to relocate them. Very comical that he got traded again, but the 4 million will ease his pain.

Why didn't he just change his name? Won't he get banned for having 2 separate accounts?

Multiple personalities deserve multiple accounts...right?

No, in all seriousness, he wanted to change his name, but I think it wasn't moving fast enough. We'll square it up.

I think New Jersey won this trade in a big way.......

Devin is a good young PG.

Diop is a good shotblocking center.....

Then you get these picks:
Dallas surrendered first-round picks in 2008 and 2010, although the Mavericks will keep their 2008 pick and surrender picks in 2009 and 2011 if they fail to make the playoffs this season. There is no protection on the 2010 (or 2011) first-round pick, Thorn said.

An unprotected pick in 2010 could come back to haunt Dallas.....

Even if Kidd wanted to play in Milwaukee, we couldn't nor should we have tried to present any offer like that. A Mo/CV/Simmons offer can't stack up with what Dallas got. We really don't have much to deal outside Bogut and Yi....and even those guys might not be worth as much as we think.

From Mark Cuban's view, it is a good deal. The time is getting close when the Mavs had to take a shot just as the Suns did with Shaq. Granted it is a gamble, but a calculated, legit gamble. With the Bucks out of the picture, the Mavs are my playoffs team. Sorrry for pulling a Huckabee here!

I like the deal from the Mavs' perspective. They badly needed a strong leader on the court - that's never been a role Dirk's been all that comfortable with - and they badly need mental toughness. Kidd provides both. He won't melt down in the pressure of a big game in the playoffs the way the Mavs did last year against Golden State, for example. Kidd may not be enough for the Mavs to win a title but they weren't going to win one with what they had. It was a bold, aggressive move and a smart one in my opinion. As much as I like Devin Harris, I'd much rather have the proven producer who can still play at an elite level.

For the Nets, I see considerable risk. Harris isn't close to being the player Kidd is and may never get close to that level. Diop is a good defender but good teams know how to find players like that without breaking the bank. And the picks could be low enough to be just out of reach of a quality starter and more in line with what you hope are solid role players. Harris and a couple of solid role players for Jason Kidd doesn't sound like that good of a trade but obviously we won't know for some time what happens with those picks.

Yup. The only thing that would probably be worse would be if he was traded back home.

Amazing deal for the Nets.

Get a player in Devin that statistically is better than Kidd, and has a great contract.

Getting Diop will help their front-line depth, and maybe they can sign him this offseason.

The 2 future 1sts only help their rebuilding process even more.

Compared to the Gasol deal, the Nets got amazing value for Kidd.
