Seems like a perfect fit. A no nonsense organization, with a guy that needs an almost flawless environment to succeed long term.
Spurs give up little and keep up with the other teams in the west making moves.
Update Edit: I just changed the title to reflect the news that they are now getting Kurt Thomas rather than Ron Artest. -PP25

This, IMO would be the move that trumps all others, even more-so than the Gasol trade. When Artest's head is on straight he's an elite NBA Player. If it doesn't happen in San Antonio, it doesn't happen anywhere.

really great move by the spurs if it happens. bowen and artest on the wings is so good defensively.
that leaves new orleans, houston, golden state, and denver as the contenders out west who haven't made a move yet this season, and are the teams harris should be calling as they might be a little more desparate and might overpay for some of our guys.

This would be a fantastic move for them. If Pop, Duncan and Bowen can't keep him in line, nobody can. My God, let's stack up the Western powers as much as possible, eh? The playoffs this year are going to be incredible in the west. Gives major credence to Reggie Miller's opinion that the top 16 teams should get in regardless of conference.

Expirings (Elson, Barry) and a draft pick.

It's rumored Francisco Elson (expiring) and Brent Barry (expiring)

The Kings are going to lose him this summer regardless. They just want something for him and it looks like expiring contracts and maybe a pick is the best they're being offered.

Man, I have always been a closet Spurs fan, but if this happens, watch out.
Timmy is exactly the kind of alpha dog and Popps is exactly the kind of coach that wouldn't take Artest's crap.
If Artest is in defense and efficient offense mode, he is still a semi-elite player in the league.

That would move Bowen to the second best offensive SG/SF player each night, which would cause nightmares for the opposition. They can then bring Manu and Finley off the bench, or they can start Manu at 2, Bowen at 3, Artest at 4, TD at 5 and still not lose much at all defensively.
This would be a huge move for the Spurs.

San Antonio, where the opposite to Milwaukee happens.

Could you imagine being able to go into a game with the plan of "Well if their star wing lights up Bowen we can just move Artest onto him."? Wowzers!

This would be the NBA version of Randy Moss to the Patriots.
Artest like Moss is a great player but needs to be in the right situation/environment.Just like the Patriots was the perfect fit for Moss the Spurs would be the perfect fit for Artest.

Damn. I pretty much stayed out of everybody's second team business because I don't agree with it, but watching all this WC basketball is going a long way to bring some enjoyment in and make up for the other crap I see a few times a week.

Hmm, Spurs get Kurt Thomas instead.
The San Antonio Spurs have reached agreement with the SuperSonics that will bring them center Kurt Thomas in exchange for guard Brent Barry, center Francisco Elson and a 2009 first-round draft pick, league sources said Wednesday.

Don't get me wrong, I really like Kurt Thomas, but they gave up two expirings and a first round pick for the 35 year old? I know their pick wouldn't be high, but they're great drafters.

How the Sonics turned nothing into three first round picks is beyond me.
