Mo Williams or Ben Gordon

The Bulls offered Gordon a 50 million dollar extension and he turned it down.

These are his numbers:

PPG 20.0
RPG 3.4
APG 2.8
SPG 0.8
BPG 0.1
FG% 0.424
FT% 0.924
3P% 0.393
MPG 35.0

Mo Williams is making significantly less. These are his numbers:

PPG 17.5
RPG 3.5
APG 6.5
SPG 1.3
BPG 0.1
FG% 0.476
FT% 0.857
3P% 0.395
MPG 37.9

I did a Mo vs Gordon comparison a couple years ago on this site. I'm getting deja vu' doing another.

My point is two fold:

One, the Bulls are getting similar production from a similar player, and they're offering him 10 million a year.

Second, if they don't think Gordon is in their future because of his price tag, don't you think Mo Williams would make for a logical trade target if your Paxon? He could fill Gordon's role at a discount.

I would love for Paxon to want another undersized 2 guard, but that is the issue with so many Bulls fans I know, no one really likes the small backcourt. I should say of there mounting issues.

This is an interesting thread because up until the last two months, I would have said that no way is Mo Williams in Gordon's league as a scorer. I've watched Gordon take over many games when he gets hot.

But Mo's scoring has taken another step up IMO......but I'm not sure he's at Gordon's level yet....but it's getting very close since Mo has some PG duties where he's being asked not to shoot.

The problem is the small size of both guys......

They both are Shooting Guards in a Point Guards body. I'd rather have neither!

Mo is more versatile. I understand why many wouldn't want him as a starting PG for their team, but as a 6th man he is far more skilled in PG abilities than Gordan is. Mo can come into games for a team with a starting PG and be a high quality backup at the point to rest the starter and also ply other minutes as just a pure scorer.

Gordan has almost zero PG abilities like many other SG's lack. He's a scorer and pretty much nothing else.

I'll take Mo. While he's a dumb player overall he is more versatile on offense and is a much better creator than Gordon. Gordon is more capable of going for big games and plays better defense, but Gordon has zero PG skills.

They are both overpaid 6th men

Am I the only one who thinks Mo's not particularly overpaid? We paid more than we had to for him, but thats another story. The guy has his deficiencies and drives me nuts at times, but i don't think his contract is THAT bad.
As for Gordon turning down that deal, he's clearly an idiot, and Deng is looking similar. The Bulls have some serious issues, strange given the comparitive situations but they might be the only team who need a trade more than us. If I was Paxon I'd move Deng or Gordon or both today if anything close to the right deal came up, otherwise he'll be out on his a** before next season. Those failed negotiations killed their chemistry imo.

His contract isn't bad at all.

That's part of the reason I made this thread. Look at what similar players are making around the league. Look at what the Bulls offered Gordon. If anything Mo Williams is underpaid.

I wouldn't say he's underpaid, but we don't have to look as far as chicago to see a guard who's overpaid, just slightly to Mo's left will do.

Mo's paid right about where he should be. His contract is not the issue.

:D . Not actually the guard I was thinking of, but I'm happy to go with it.

Yeah, Mo's contract is just fine, and I think he's better than Gordon, but Ben Gordon is one of the most overrated guards in the known universe. When they bring you in for no reason but to throw the ball at the basket a zillion times, especially at the end of games, it makes you look pretty flashy.

I can't wait to see what kind of contract he ends up with.

The Williams/Gordon debate is just like the Hughes/Redd debate....I don't want either one....Mo Williams just is not a smart enough basketball player.
