Would you trade entire core minus Bogut/Yi for expirings?

Just a hypothetical. If we could move the entire long-term core (Mo/Redd/Bell/Villanueva/Simmons/Gadzuric) outside of Bogut/Yi for 2007-08 expiring deals, would you? We would get no picks, we would still have our pick. Just putting this up to get a gauge on how badly people want to rebuild this thing, and how highly they value Mo/Redd/CV.

And GAD, I realize this is probably some kind of CBA violation or whatever, but let it slide..

then we'd have to field a team entirely of whatever free agents are available that year, the ones that would willingly come here that is and whatever flawed players we could get for some of the expiring deals.

Probably impossible, but of course.

This team is tricking itself it can be competitive. We need a complete overhaul like they are doing in Memphis and Minnesota.

They each are building around their young stars, Jefferson and Gay.

I don't know if we have a young player on our roster on Jefferson's or Gay's level, but we need to recognize that we are going nowhere with our roster.

We are going to lose anyways, I would rather lose knowing there is young talent, picks, and future cap space waiting.

Well, that would leave us next year with our pick, top ten, Yi, Bogut, Mason, Sessions, our second rounder, Ilyasova. That's seven guys. The FA class is one of the best in a long time (check the list), we could definitely land at least one of those guys. Thats 8 guys right there.

I wouldn't for expiring for all. Maybe a few players. But still would want younger players that know their roles along side of Yi/Bogut. Still would want picks or role players. Wish we had a Scott Williams or a Joe Smith type role player here yet. Herb should of did that Simmons for Artest deal before he got injured other season. Then Gadz for Kenny Thomas before Gadz got hurt. Seems like the kings had there eyes on our junk a few seasons ago. Mo and Magloire for Boozer would of been sweet too.

That's why I want the Bucks to sign Fazekas.

Blow it all up, and fill the roster with young talent. See what sticks, and we'd have a young core with draft picks and capspace.

Although, it is going to be almost impossible to free capsace for another 3 years with the Bobby, Redd, and Gadz contracts still on the books. I doubt we will be able to trade those guys for picks and shorter contracts.

I would have no problems with dumping our roster if we do it in favor of a hard working, defensive minded, unselfish team.

When George Karl left, Larry Harris did just this, fielding a low talent team that made to the playoffs. I think if we had that environment, even if we don't make the playoffs next season, we would get a whole lot more development out of our yougn players (which should be our #1 priority) and the team woudl genearlly be more exciting and fan friendly.

The Redd, Simmons, Gadzuric contracts are killer, that's why I'm seeing if people would be willing to take less talent back if we could rid ourselves of all of them and just start over.

The fact that we are stuck with this core until 2011-12 with no moves is pretty depressing.

Let's just trade everyone.

(I'm only half kidding.)

who's out there this offseason that makes the free agent class so deep? arenas, jamison, brand (if he opts out), marion (again, if he opts out), and a few guys like deng, iguodala, and josh smith that haven't had their rookie deals extended. it's good, but i don't think it's that deep. as i posted in the thread about seattle's rebuilding process, i'm shooting for the 2010 offseason when these guys are free agents (some have player options to decline):

Lebron James
Dwayne Wade
Dirk Nowitzki
Tyson Chandler
Amare Stoudamire
Ray Allen
Ben Wallace
Rip Hamilton
Jermaine O'neal
Joe Johnson
Tracy McGrady
Mike Miller
Manu Ginobli
Marcus Camby
Carlos Boozer
Mehmet Okur
Steve Nash
Al Harrington
Michael Redd

plus if we wait till then it gives bogut/yi and our future picks time to develop, then we can add that missing piece via free agency.

i actually read it wrong, my bad

i thought it said trade the whole team minus yi/bogut for expirings.

that would be a little harder

I thought about this in the Seattle thread.

Would you deal Redd, CV and Mo for 25 cents on the dollar if it mean you could be rid of Simmons and Gadz as well?

For example, this summer:

Trade #1

Milwaukee trades:
Michael Redd
Dan Gadzuric

Cleveland trades:
Wally Szerbiak
Eric Snow
2009 first round pick

Cleveland isn't better than Detroit or Boston. They're going to be an easy out for either team come playoff time. This summer they add Redd to give them a legit second banana.

Wally and Snow are expiring deals for the Bucks.

Trade #2

Milwaukee trades:
Mo Williams
Bobby Simmons
Charlie Villanueva

NY Trades:
Stephon Marbury
Renaldo Balkman

NY gets three guys that could actually step on the court and perform. Villanueva goes back East where he can start once Randolph is moved. Zeke gets a young PG to try and mold.

We get a massive expiring deal and a SF to audition for a starting spot.

Going into the summer of '09, that would leave Milwaukee with the following players:

Andrew Bogut (if he's signed)
Yi Jianlian
Charlie Bell
2008 First round pick
2009 First round pick
2009 First round pick (Cavs)

Yes I would...
I'd actually be willing to perhaps keep Bell with the young guys, because I believe he brings much needed defense and can stay within the team concept.

But I really want to start from scratch, its ashame we didn't get this accomplished before the deadline.

However the Bucks can rebuild very quickly in the East.

1. Blow it up, get some draft picks, and maybe a young player or two with promise along with those expirings.

2. Add a top 5 or 8 lotto pick most likely.

3. Lock up Bogut, and bring in a couple solid free agents that have high bball IQ and can play defense to modest short term contracts.

Let things grow, and when you have the cap room you can potentially land an impact free agent. If not, then you stink an extra year and get another top pick.

is bogut going to want to sign a long term deal to stay with a team rebuilding like that?

Why not? He said as much basically word for word last week. It was along the lines of, "If we're rebuilding here I want to be apart of that".

I would do it just to be rid of our current roster. However, just because we would have more money to offer doesn't make us any less Milwaukee Bucks. Top free agents would still need to want to come here. Not sure that would happen assuming that players talk to each other about how the organization is run.
I would still do it in hopes that some better chemistry would happen w/ a new roster.

i didn't read that tread but didn't he say he would take less money to play for a contending team? or something like that?

if the choice is between utah and the bucks when the bucks are part of the way into rebuilding (which may or may not be going well), why would he stay?

This was the quote:

Last month, he averaged 16.9 points and 9.2 rebounds in 17 games - well up on his career averages of 11.3 and 8.1. He still has another year remaining on his contract, but extension negotiations will begin at the end of this season.

"That's something I'm going to be adamant about in off-season negotiations. It isn't going to be all about money for me, it's going to be about my role within the team: I want it to be bigger and better,'' Bogut says.

"At the same time, I'd rather be on a winning team than take $70-80million (over five to six years), so I think if we're building for the future, that's definitely something I'd like to be a part of.''

Everyone seemed to focus on the first part of that last sentence, while I focused on the second.

I think he'd thrilled if we gutted this joke of a team in order to surround Bogut with young talent that compliments his game.

The Bucks must do everything in there power to get an intelligent, PG or point whatever to run this team............that won't be easy but whether it be a trade for a draft pick or someone on the verge, they have to do it.
