MLE Targets?

I believe we have both the MLE and LLE (which has changed names and GAD will surely correct me on).
So, who you got?
I'd be taking a hard look at Josh Childress with the Josh Smith contract tying up Atlanta's resources. Though, we'll have to compete for his services I'm sure.
Delonte West is another guy that I've always liked. He fits the tall, defensive minded pass first PG mold that everyone is Jones-ing for here. and, with the Cavs needing to lock up Boobie (who will be grossly overpaid by Ferry), I think he'll be available.
We should try our best to move on Carl Landry, who is having a great season and is a hometown kid.
Kwame Brown will be a forgotten man this summer, but he's still a good post defender and would be better off the bench than Gadz.
Jarvis Hayes would be nice in a scorer off the bench role.
Ryan Gomes is a solid guy, but will probably be overpaid by someone.
My dream would be Delonte West and Carl Landry.

Childress would be my #1 target. High %, low volume shooter who just knows how to play.

I like Childress, but I'm all in favor of going all out in an attempt to secure some of the top Euro talent. It seems that -- if they're willing to cross the pond -- you can get good players for below their fair value on their first contract. I'd push for a Euro influence in the front office or on the floor as a coach (Ettore Messina) who could lend us some credibility in competing with SA/PHO/TOR for guys like Siskauskas, Papaloukas and Diamantidis if they're amiable to the idea of playing in the NBA. We need an edge somewhere, and it could only help to have a bench full of smart, mentally tough players -- not that some of the guys you bring up wouldn't qualify, but they'd seem to be significantly more costly.

I wouldn't mind Gomes.

Sadly, it really doesn't matter. We'll have to overpay to get anyone decent here and when whomever we overpay gets here, he won't play defense but WILL start chucking.

Some other guys to consider:
Artest- He is a crazy SOB, sure. He would though become our best defender and probably best overall player. Artest might want to come here, but I'm not sure how many teams will be offering big money.
Barnes/Azubuke- fill the same role as Childress maybe cheaper
C. Smith- Badly need good rebounders
Pargo- Could be another steal at PG.
Milsap/Bass- Both the same type of player and would love to have either on this team. Overpaying for these guys wouldn't be ideal, but it would great to finally add some toughness to this team. How much do that Mavs want to go over the tax to keep Bass? Are the Jazz willing to go over the tax to match milsap?

Bass signed a two year deal. Is the 2nd year a player option? Millsap has a team option, too.
I like Barnes alright. Patrick O'Bryant might be a Mo Williams-from-Utah type signing, but he's a UFA, so we wouldn't have to worry about them matching.
Ariza is still very young.
Diop is a UFA.

One more dark horse name, and a guy that might be available for a very small deal: Travis Watson. He was a beast at Virginia and is a statistical juggernaut playing for the same Italian team as Gallinari.

Thats what I get 4 using ESPN.

Good find. You are way better then Chuck. I don't think he knew anything.

You know me all too well

It is the BAE now, the Bi-Annual Exception.
For the 2008-2009 season, it is $1.91 mil for the first year's salary.
Two year maximum contract length. The second year can be a salary between $1.768519 mil and $2.0628 mil

I agree that he would be a good target. Ideally you would then also trade at least one of Dez or Simmons either before or after retaining Childress' services.

I agree that Gibson will be overpaid.
You might be right about Delonte West.
There are some things about him that make me not interested in adding him to the team though.
For one thing, he is crazy. Not maliciously crazy, but just totally whacked out. I'd have to rely on someone else for a better scouting report on what type of basketball IQ the guy has exhibited. I just haven't watched him play enough.
And I also have a completely petty and nonsensical reason I'm not interested in adding him to the team:
I can't look at him without thinking he is a leprechaun with a facial infestation of herpes. It creeps me out.
midranger wrote:We should try our best to move on Carl Landry, who is having a great season and is a hometown kid.
Could be a good move.
midranger wrote:Kwame Brown will be a forgotten man this summer, but he's still a good post defender and would be better off the bench than Gadz.
Unless we trade Gadz, Im still of the belief that are resources are better used elsewhere than on another backup for Bogut. If Gadz is still on the team, then I sign a third string minimum salary guy. If that guy can supplant Gadz in the rotation, more power to him. Ideally an older veteran like a Dale-Davis type would be who I'd want, but the Bucks right now aren't a good enough team for most of those players to want to play here, unfortunately.
midranger wrote:Jarvis Hayes would be nice in a scorer off the bench role.
Not a bad target for a backup SG/SF off the bench. I'm familiar with his offensive game, what can you tell me about his defense?
midranger wrote:Ryan Gomes is a solid guy, but will probably be overpaid by someone.
I agree. Therefore I wouldn't bother with Ryan Gomes.
midranger wrote:My dream would be Delonte West and Carl Landry.
Well, keep in mind that even when we had ~$8 mil in cap space this offseason, we ended up with Desmond Mason and Jake Voskuhl. So don't get your hopes up

GAD.
I'm hoping (praying) that moves are made this summer that include Simmons, Gadz, Bell and perhaps Redd/Mo, while building around a young veteran core. I was kind of looking at FAs with that in mind already. It's tough to extrpolate who we'll need, but I think that the players I listed would be solid role players wherever. They are all young enough for continued development, but none are going to be total busts for their role.
In all honesty, I'd probably be fine with trying to bring Ersan back, and giving Noel/Sessions a shot.

I don't know if I want us spending our full MLE. Another bench player signed for five years. Really depends on what direction our team is going. If we trade Yi and our lotto pick for proven talent, then a MLE makes sense.
If we're rebuilding, then let's save our money and be patient.

Draft Russell Westbrook. Trade Mo, CV, Gadz and Simmons for J. O'neal.
Sign Childress.

Yep, this team really need another dumb basketball player who loves to shoot and has no clue how to play defense.
Yep, thats exactly what we need.

Loved this line from Hollinger on Smith:
"Smith plays like he learned everything about defense from watching Carmelo Anthony. He's great in the passing lanes, but his effort comes and goes and if he did any more cherry-picking he'd be eligible for agricultural subsidies."

At least he would fit in.

If we can move Gadz then an ideal replacement would be Elson. He's Dutch so we don't lose our 4 Dutch fans, he's basically a Gadz clone, but with a brain.
And provided we move Simmons or DMase. Some SF's we could get on the cheap would be:
Pietrus, James Jones, Nachbar, Ariza, or maybe even Najera.

For sure.
I would go after him aggressively.
I also would try hard to move up in the draft using Mo or Redd.
