Bucks down two scouts

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere, but the Bucks are now working with half the scouting staff they were last year. In the off-season Scott Howard took a position with the Bobcats, and midway through this year Scott Roth took a head coaching position in the D-league. That leaves only Harris and Babcock to do our college scouting. As a lottery team, working with an underhanded scouting staff isn't very comforting. Hopefully Ron Walter doesn't start popping up at SEC games.

Wow, that is amazing. First of all, they only had two dedicated college scouts? And now none? What in the ****. It's not even possible to do due diligence on the draft with two guys, one of whom supposedly has other duties and may not even be with the team come draft time. I guess we're trading the pick.

Harris and Babcock may as well just do the college scouting themselves. Their jobs are done by Kohl and the cronies anyway, for the most part. This is just another way for Kohl to cut costs :)
:(

Seriously, not only is our front office dysfunctional, but it keeps getting smaller and smaller.

We used to have a GM, and Assistant GM, a Director of Player Personnel, Assistant Director of Player Personnel, and Salary Cap Specialist.

We're now up to three of those positions vacant with just a GM and a DPP, and now apparently we are down two scouts as well.

Brilliant.

This is an example of why Kohl gets referred to as "cheap" by NBA people. It is true that Kohl has gone with a high payroll for players on numerous occasions, but he often skimps in other areas, usually starting with the coaching staff (though he has made exceptions with Dunleavy and Karl) and the front office.

But he also skimps on plenty of other things like player amenities, stuff for players' wives/families, etc.

Maybe Kohl realized he can just read Draft Express for free.

Tell Larry Harris to send me application or give me an address to send my resume'. I can do as good as some of his staff is doing...

My posts in here all year is my resume' in all actuality and my on the job experience and qualifacations.

I am availible to go to work...IMMEDIATELY to get some in here who have a vision and desire to turn my hometown team round and get us back on the winning track where we belong!

I'm serious...I am tired of this losing crap and culture that the Brewers and Packers have seem to have fixed in this market so it CAN BE DONE!

Your resume is that you posted on a message board that you need winners like Luke Jackson, Reece Gaines, Stephon Marbury, and Larry Hughes to win in the NBA?

I'm sure they'll be jumping all over that one.

Here's what we have on the official site at the moment, which doesn't look very updated since Roth is still on there:

Director of Player Personnel - Dave Babcock
Director of European Scouting - Jacinto Castillo
Scouts - Chris Gilmartin, Scott Roth
Player Personnel and Scouting Assistant - David Dean

I assume Gilmartin and Dean are the guys picking up the slack? I have no idea when they were hired or what they do, but I can only assume the Bucks would have them traveling around for scouting purposes rather than LH/DB.

ETA: I suppose it's normal for a DPP and at times GMs to travel to see guys, but my point was that if this list aside from Roth is still accurate then it would at least appear they have a couple other guys who could do that. That said, Chuck knows a lot more about this stuff than I do :)

Kohl is really cheap. He might look like a big spender when we re-up our own like TT and all. But we sent him for a shorter deal in KVH. Then Big Dog was sent for a shorter deal in Kukoc. Cassell for Smith was about equal. Then Allen for expiring Payton. Kohl is cheapskate.

Chris Gilmartin is the guy who scouts other NBA teams and is not involved in the draft. I've never heard of Dean, but apparently Harris and Babcock have done all of the college scouting.

Thanks for clarifying.

Do you know how our European scouting works? Do we just have part-time scouts who report to Castillo, or does Castillo just run around himself watching guys we're interested in?

I'll never understand the thought process behind playing players and then skimping on all the much smaller expenses that can help so much.

Now I see in the JS Pat Riley will leave the Heat and miss a couple games to scout conference tournaments as team president. Why can't our coach have to do something like that to help out? :)
