Like it or not, unless we start winning games I think he's gonna be our guy. I actually think he's got a lot of the right skills to make an immediate impact, along with having a real high ceiling.

I've never seen him play but I can't stand that guy because we got him like 50 times in a row when I was doing that ESPN mock draft thing.

Answer is no for both of those questions. He also has an NBA escape clause in his contract.

I like everything about him except that he has "growing into his body" issues and, more importantly, he won't ever be able to guard NBA SFs at an above average level. The way this Bucks team is currently constructed each of these problems are huge negatives individually, and collectively they are dealbreakers. Unless the new GM wants -and is given the authority- to completely blow up the roster this offseason, I say we would be much better off trading down six spots and nabbing Tyler Smith.

I agree. Batum is known as a tenacious defender by most reports I have read. Plus I think we need to try to hit the home run more so than land the solid player. All we have are solid players who would be good players on other teams but nothing close to great. Batum has way more upside and I personally would gamble on him first. If we ended up with Gallinari though, I wouldn't be too upset at this point since the scouting reports seem decent. It is still way to early to "crown his ass" though. By the time the draft takes place, some players will take massive dives and some will shoot up. Once March Madness and the combine measurements are over, the nbadraft.net and draftexpress mock boards will most likely look wildly different from picks 3-16 than they are now.

As a quick example, how much do you want to bet Kevin Love shoots up the draft boards if UCLA makes a decent run in the tournament? When I watch them he is the best player on that team at the college level. Now will it translate to the NBA, who knows. But someone will get enamored by him and he will probably be drafted top 10 anyway since someone will fall in love with him once he dominates in the tournament. I would also bet Collison will shoot up the boards since he is very good. I have no idea why Westbrook on that team is rated so high. BTW, UCLA has potentially 5 future NBA players on their roster and I have watched them numerous times this year and they are my pick to win it all. I also think Thabeet will shoot up the draft boards especially if his measurables are decent since everyone wants a potentially dominate defensive center.

Players who I think will drop down the current boards include obviously Westbrook, Jordan (he is not that good IMO, what do people see in this guy?), Lopez since he does not shoot at a high enough % for a supposed dominate college center and he has no passing skills.

My surprise pick while I am at it of someone who will get drafted who no one is talking about is Michael Flowers. If the Badgers make a good run in the tourney, Flowers lock down defense will be a big factor and I think someone will draft him late second round to stash in the D league to see if he can develop into a decent role player. I think one of phoenix, san antonio, detroit, or boston will select him.

Now that I have all that on record, please start telling me how crazy I am.

I say dont change the team and add chemistry. The Spurs and others have done it. We've changed too much every year and it doesnt work, lets improve on what we got and add a talented 1st.

All the scouting reports I've read say Batum has lock down defensive potential (think a taller, longer, more athletic version of Thabo Sefolosha with greater variety to his offensive game), so yeah, I do think you're stereotyping a bit, but I also understand and share some of your concern. Assuming we draft at 8, 9, or 10 and we aren't able to get good value in return for moving the pick, who would you want to take? Would you advocate going in a direction other than SF?

Play Sessions over Bell?

Gallinari played in the Euroleague that is the most competitive tournament after the NBA and he was easily the best player of his team (the Armani Jeans Milano). He is tough, very talented on the offensive side of the ball, shoots very well, but uses his body, rebounds well. His father was an energy player (without any sort of offesive talent) in the 80s for Milano, won a lot of titles in Italy with Mike D'Antoni starting at PG, so despite he is the opposite of his father (great, huge offensive talent), I believe Danilo has taken toughness from him.

Maybe the Bucks should just take this guy in the second round, or undrafted:

Yeah forget all these soft European players. I mean I've never seen this Giseppe guy play but I know none of these silly foreigners are worth a dam. It's not like any of them have ever amounted to anything in the NBA. I'd rather stick with an all American guy like Brian Butch or Greg Stiemsma.

If that was directed towards my post, which I can't be sure of because you didn't quote it, I really don't know what to say. The point I was trying to make is that this Pat Calathes kid has almost the exact scouting report as Gallinari, but better stats playing in the NCAA, which is generally regarded as almost on par with the Euroleague. That is all.

No that wasn't directed towards you, I also think Pat Calathes is a nice player.
