This is conditional on the Bucks not getting either the 1st or 2nd pick in the draft.

Bucks Trade:

2008 1st Round Pick

Portland Trades:

Rights to Petteri Koponen
Rights to Rudy Fernandez
All 2008 2nd Round Picks (currently #3, #4, and #24)

Why for the Bucks?

This gives the Bucks the flexibility to move Michael Redd and/or Mo Williams on draft day and up until the deadline.

It also gives them multiple 2nd round picks which they could use to add depth, or use to trade up into a couple of late first round picks.

Why for the Blazers

This gives Portland 2 lottery picks, with which they could use to trade up, or just use to solidify their already talented roster.

Hell no. I'm not trading our lottery pick for that.

I would keep our lottery pick. Obviously, this trade could be well analized only after the draft lottery, knowing if our pick is a no.12 or a no.2.

Neapolitian, just wanted to clarify that this idea is conditional on the Bucks not getting the 1st or 2nd pick. I understand what you mean that it might be too soon for this idea.

I'm just seeing this draft as overall weaker than last years edition, and to me, not much seperates picks 3-30.

Just curious, have you watched any of Koponen or Fernandez this year? Being in Europe, I'm wondering if you have been able to see either of their team's games?

I'm not doing a 5 for 1 trade when three of those picks will be 2nd rounders and two will be late 1st rounders. This team needs a star, not role players.

Fair enough. I guess I just feel that late first round picks in last year's draft are close to being equal to lottery picks in this year's draft. I see it as Beasley, Rose, and Mayo - and then a bunch of flawed potential.

We do need a star, but we need better players in general. Here are two guys who could potentially replace Williams and Redd, although I would like to keep Williams as a sixth man. Redd could go to Cleveland in exchange for Wally's expiring contract and picks.

There are always teams that want to trade late first round picks, because they don't want to have to pay guaranteed salary. If we did this trade we would have 4 non-guaranteed contract 2nd rounders to dangle in front of those teams.

But, I get where you're coming from.

Is Fernandez going to want to come over to back up Roy? Are the Blazers going to want to pay his buy-out and his salary to do that (I'm guessing they would because they have an endless supply of money/Paul Allen)?

Fernandez would've been a lottery pick last year if it wasn't for his massive buyout. His contract has been reworked to make coming over to the NBA next season easier and he's widely regarded as the best player in Europe. That being said, I have no idea how much he's worth.

Seems pretty fair value wise, maybe a little too much for the Bucks, depending on how Fernandez is valued. The Bucks need good players period, and I think 4 picks in the 25-35 range gives you a better chance at that than 1 mid-lottery pick.

It takes more to win, or even to field a good team, than just a star player. Just look at the Heat, or the Wolves when they had KG.

A pick in the 5-10 range, in what looks to be a mediocre draft, has a chance of 5% or so of landing a star player.

I'd rather have a star player from the Spanish league and a bunch of late first / early second round picks. As Rockmaninof said, those picks make good trade chips as well, and we definitely need to make some trades.

Well, you're obviously not following something closely, because as you know, Rose and Beasley are the top 2, and you never fail to see Mayo between 10-14.

Are we forgetting DeAndre Jordan, Eric Gordon, Brook Lopez, Jerryd Bayless, Russell Westbrook, Roy Hibbert, and others?

Sorry, I wanted to digit 3 and I didn't note the mistake.
Here in Italy basketball tv coverage is very poor and I can see only italian championship and some euroleague games, so I have never seen Koponen or Fernandez play. Sorry again.

In any case I would trade our lottery pick only for a player, not a prospect; someone who can help us immediately; a player like Josh Smith or Okafor, or Childress or someone like them.

Maybe in the old mocks Mayo is there, but I'd be shocked if he didn't go in at least the top 5. My statement was that MY top players in this draft are Beasley, Rose, and Mayo. Except, if the Bucks had the 3rd pick, I'd rather they do a trade like the one I presented, than take OJ Mayo.
