Sen. Herb Kohl says Bucks will stay despite revenue woes

Ok first and foremost, Im not saying that I agree with everything Herb has done since he first bought the team in the 80's. However, with all the negative press he has gotten lately and how bad the Bucks have been performing lately, I thought the man needed an appreciation thread.
Now if Herb decides to hang up the ownership title and hands the reigns over to someone else, he will go down in history as one of Wisconsin's true local heroes. Having an enormous dedication to keeping the Bucks in Milwaukee has been great for this city. At least he deserves a standing ovation for what he has done for this franchise.
Reading the article above has given me great hope that this team can in fact succeed under Herb Kohl. He just needs to back off, and I think he realizes this.
Heres hoping the Bucks can turn this around. Please people atleast acknowledge a good owner. He wont be around forever, and he has done a lot of good for this city.

Come on broski, I'm in agreement that just being a good owner isn't enough in the long run, but the guy deserves a little respect as an owner. He has fought tooth and nail to keep this franchise in Milwaukee. All I'm saying is a little gratitude is in order. Feel me?

So he's a good owner cause he's keeping the team here? I'm sure he cares, but your mistaken if you don't think his comments relate to his full time job and the ramafications moving the team might have there.
No doubt he'll TRY to sell the team to someone who keeps it here...but that doesn't mean they will.

not really, i don't see where the "good owner" part comes in. of course i'm thankful that he kept the team here but isn't that a pretty low standard?
fought tooth and nail against who/what? it's his team

I'm happy for his dedication to the city and the team, but man, he just needs to back off and let a basketball mind run the basketball part of the team.

I hope this is a joke thread making fun of the LH appreciation thread. herb Kohl is the 2nd worst owner int he NBA. Worst would be the Clippers.

He might lose money here and there, but he is going to make a truck load when he sells the team.

To be completely objective about the situation there is plenty you have to give Herb Kohl credit for.
1. He has kept the Bucks in Milwaukee for 20+ years.
2. He refused to sell our team to MJ because he could not guarantee the team would leave.
3. He loses money every year. He makes up the difference out of pocket. Granted his investment has appreciated in value quite a bit. But as a business venture, this is a labor of love.
There is plenty to be critical of. You could almost say he loves the team too much. But has just become too involved in its operation.
It must be difficult to let someone run your business unabated. There have to be checks and balances to make sure sloppy decisions aren't made and executed.
After the 2001 debacle Herb felt he had to pull the reigns in a bit.
Hopefully he knows it's time to loosen those up a bit, if he can find the right people.
There is certainly plenty to be critical of and people have recognized that.
But there is plenty to appreciate Herb Kohl for and people should recognize that too.
But you only get recognized for greatness when greatness is happening.
If the Bucks were to ever enjoy some success he would be recognized, but that has not happened under his ownership.

You said there is plenty to appreciate about kohl----I see only his willingness to keep the team in milwaukee as a positive.
It's true that at certain points he would spend to keep players and sign coaches. However, it's also true that he's skimped tragically bad on coaches and players for the vast majority of his tenure here. Hiring 3 cheap coaches he could easily manipulate in a row has been tragic for the team. Refusing to trade mo/magloire for boozer or bobby/yi for marion in large part because of money concerns has been inexcusable as well.
Now I certainly hope that he's willing to go through a period of high spending on coaches, general managers, and players once again. but calling him a good owner for doing what any competent owner would do is just not true.
basically, I thank him for keepign the team in milwaukee, but it's well past time for him to act like a competent owner again.

Now that is a good post. I agree with everything you said. Im not happy with the current Bucks, however I give props where its due. And Kohl keeping the team in Milwaukee weighs heavily on my decision of declaring him a good owner. Is there better? HELL YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But come on people dont crucify the guy because he cares too much.

I definitely think Herb deserves some more respect. I'm thankful he has kept the Bucks in Milwaukee.
If he was just some owner that wanted a profit, he would've sold to MJ back when he was interested. Then it would really suck since the Bucks would end up in Vegas or some other area outside of Wisconsin.
Now hopefully he can step back and hire someone to get this franchise back in the right direction (hopefully donnie walsh).

Making a topic like this for Kohl is as stupid as it gets. Theres nothing you could sayo r do that would be stupider. Obviously you know nothing about the Bucks, NBA, or basketball period. I rather takemy chances with the Bucks losing then keep it in Kohls hands.

No owner has ever won or lost a championship. Herb has been willing to spend money and get the job done. He has done it poorly but he is willing to get it done. If he lets the next gm take over and get a veteran coach, we will win again. Don't blame Herb for all the failures.
Gadzuric and Simmons with big contracts signed by pretty boy should be taking much of the blame. Screw Harris, I hope he sucks as a NBA executive the rest of his life.
