Is Donnie Walsh on Bucks wish list? (updated-staying w/Indy)

Edit: *See updated post on page 3 of this thread. Sounds like Walsh is staying in Indy and the report below was the Bucks damage control for not being able to hire him away.

This one deserved a new thread. Mitch Lawrence has a full report on Walsh today.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baske ... tml?page=0

In the column is a troubling report coming out of the Bucks camp. You'd presume this is a Kohl/Ron Walter leak......

"The Bucks, who have discussed Walsh as a potential candidate to run their team, have looked at the O'Neal contract as a reason to put Walsh low on their wish list. Walsh has been criticized for overpaying for other talent, including Jalen Rose and Jonathan Bender."

Now granted O'Neal is overpaid, but his contract is a function of where max guys were at a few years ago. The fact someone is concerned about Donnie Walsh overpaying JO as a reason not to hire him, and ignoring the totality of his work is just wrong.

Or maybe Walsh turned the Bucks down and this is the Bucks way of pretending they never made the offer? Some sort of denial.

Either way, I find it curious that Lawrence got a leak like this.

That is a bigtime copout to bring up the JO contract. JO was a stud a few years ago on a very, very good Pacers team. They need to look at the entire resume.

Plus, it's pretty ignorant to criticize others when their own organization has several players who don't warrant their contracts. It's not like Harris was the only one giving a green light on Gadz & company.

Again, I'm not sure what to make of this report. Lawrence talked to somebody who leaked it out for some reason.

If I had to choose, the guess might be that Walsh said no and now the Bucks are doing damage control that they never were interested in the first place.

There is also info out on the wires today that Carlisle might get the Bulls job.

Why you gotta post two potentially tragic news bits in the same thread? I want some good bucks news for once, damn!

WTF!? Every team in the league would have loved to be able to give JO a max deal at the time. If he would have been healthy his whole career he would be in the same class as Duncan and KG, with every other pf in the league being clearly a notch below those 3 for a variety of reasons (bad defense, lack of inside-outside game, no athleticism, less than ideal height, etc).

Sort of like T-Mac, if he was healthy it would be Kobe, Wade, T-Mac followed by Everyone Else at sg. Can't blame Walsh for JO's injuries. And this from an organization that clearly was in favor of giving a sg who doesn't play a lick of defense $90 million?!

And look what Walsh got when he traded Rose - two future all-stars on much cheaper contracts! How the hell can you argue with that?

I am sick and tired of this Bucks organization. I have NO DOUBT that this is yet another example of spin control. Walsh says no so we say we didn't want him anyway.

I am starting to become resigned to Rick Sund as our "big name" GM.

so the bucks judges Walsh for giving JO a max deal at least he got his team to multiple playoffs and 50-60 win seasons...we give Redd and Simmons money and they prove nothing.

i really want to punch kohl right in the face.

This is a stretch, but I thought of one redeeming aspect to all of this. At least Kohl and his cronies seem to recognize that overpaying players was one of Harris's biggest weaknesses and are trying to learn from it. In their own weird way.

Worst possible scenario. A guy with no experience is vastly better than a guy who's only experience is running franchises into the ground.

Kohl has painted himself into a corner with his "experienced proven winner" comment. Not many of those are available as a GM. Unless he hires Carlisle or Brown and uses their coaching success as a reason they will be good GM's.

I don't know if Walsh is low on the Bucks list, but I know that he is probably going to remain with the Pacers. A bad news any way you read it.

My name is chuk not Charlie, but each time Senator Lucy says she'll kick the ball long and true, I believe.

Each time I think they know what they're doing. When they announce a major move (e.g., firing their GM) I think-well-hope they've know what they're doing. That they have something good already worked out, ready to roll on-stage for public applause.

But they never do.

They fire a coach, and then scramble like starving chickens to fill the hole. They fire a GM. And, it appears, the scrambling is underway...

If the franchise was really committed to winning, they'd be following a map to get them to the winner's circle. But if all they're committed to is ducking and covering, then it follows a sad and shameful logic that there is no plan. When you're taking incoming fire, you run in any direction available...

....I really question the whole Donnie Walsh charade...

...Isiah was not phased by it at all...which tells me it was all a lot of hot air to appease all the furious Pacers fans...Donnie wasn't going anywhere.

...Also...if the Bucks have their **** together...they'd have a GM waiting in the wings by now...Everybody has clearly seen LH was a goner 30 games into this season...

If I was a betting man...Doug Collins has the marquee name without a doubt...to appease some of the Bucks masses...when Ricky boy Carlisle opts out for a more appetizing NBA situation...

We are more or less in a holding pattern waiting for all the dominos to fall before Kohl pulls the trigger...

Yeah Collins has a "name" but no record of success building a team.

I agree...Going with Collins is ridiculous based on name only...

I will be pissed if we don't throw a boat load of cash at Carlisle

Again as with Brown, yes to Carlisle the coach, no to Carlisle the GM.

I know this GM search has just begun but I am beginning to believe that based upon the meddling and ineptitude of the senator and his cronies, maybe it would be best to throw money at the best coach available to get the most out of the disjointed roster that the senators and his cronies will deliver to the coach, regardless of the GM's opinion on the matter. I'm truly becoming of the opinion that nothing positive is going to happen until there is a change of ownership. I know that is not a very positive attitude but I truly believe that 20 or so years of evidence outweighs what the senator says at a press conference.

Give me the best coach available (Brown, Carlyle (sp?), Skiles come to mind)

I'm thinking Rick Carlisle will probably wind up in Chicago.

But I personally wouldn't mind Scott Skiles taking over for us.
