Doug Russell: deserving of a second chance

I'm sure most of you are familiar with the unfortunate Doug Russell situation in regards to our RealGM Bucks Grocery Bag Revolt.

We went after him pretty hard here, myself in particular, and I am completely comfortable in saying that was totally justified on our part considering the circumstances.
If anyone needs to refresh their memory of what transpired, here are the links I saved from that thread. There are comments by others in there as well:

Well, on Friday afternoon, I discovered in my inbox an email from Doug Russell offering apologies and contrite explanations of a few things.

I never got a chance to deal with this Friday or at any point in what was a far busier weekend than I had anticipated. On top of everything else (NCAA tourney, Bucks vs. Cavs, etc.) that was going on this weekend, I forgot it was Easter weekend and some of my time would be taken up by Easter related activities. So I'm just now getting around to dealing with this, although I did give him a short quick response on Friday that I received his message and it was received favorably. I also let him know that he could expect more of a response from me soon.

Rather than just recount to you what his email to me says, I will post its contents here since he gave his consent for me to do that. Normally I am not a fan of posting emails someone sends onto an internet forum, and always honor someone's request for how I use information they communicate to me. In this case it seems best to let his own words be used.

First of all, no one is urging or making me contact you. There are some things I wanted to say to you as the leader of the protest last week. Feel free to post or not post, and please feel free to respond or not as you see fit. I hope this is not seen as a justification or rationalization

I don't care about having a grudge, my problem is he runs out something stupid nearly every morning in the first 45 minutes and I do NOT believe it is simply a part of the sports radio game where you need a disagreement to kick off a topic. As for not understanding how a thread works, give me a freaking break. Reading comprehension has nothing to do with how a message board works. Oh gee, I thought you really could remove a star from the Star-bellied sneetches, I didn't know how those tricky Dr. Suess books worked.

It's good that he apologized and I do not think he is a bad guy at all, but what's worse, being a goon and running with a post you know is hyperbole, or really being too stupid to comprehend the meaning of the message?

If he makes his comments on air, then he should apologise on air and correct his previous comments. Anything less than that is worthless.

I don't give him any more chances not because of the bag protest deal, but instead because he's a bad sports talk show host. He's not as bad as that Cliff Saunders scrub, but Russell is not an enjoyable listen. I gave his show a couple of chances in the past, but he's simply not good at his job and i struggle to understand how someone in charge heard Russell and thought, hey, let's hire this guy. :o

Everyone has said things they regret. Alot of people would have been hard-headed and not apologized in similar circumstances. I enjoy his show.

I'm not a listener, as I live out in DC, but this is really cool of Doug. Shows he's reasonable and not petty. How many people would actually take the time out to set things right?

I applaud the sincerity.

I agree with Dags, he needs to say these things on the air. He shot his mouth off on the air and if he his sincere in his email then he should go public with those comments.

I've only listened to Milwaukee sports radio three or four times. I don't know who it was or when, but it was the equivalent of being at a bar and listening to the loud, obnoxious, annoying drunk guy next to you ramble on about sports as if he knew absolutely everything. Sure, you could get up and move to another seat where you couldn't hear, but then you wouldn't be able to see the game on the TV.

Minneapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee...all annoying, all the time.

Mike Wickett has been doing the Douche Russell show this week. How sweet would it be if we had a Majowksi-Favre situation where Wickett takes over and we never had to hear from Michael Stipe ever again.

Mike Wickett is no upgrade over Doug.
