OT: George Karl calls out Melo

Since we've been talking about coaches quite a bit I think it will be interesting to see how his team and specifically his star player reacts to this call out.
Also, if he's going to call out Melo shouldn't he call out AI just as well? Or does he not even expect AI to improve on that facet this late in his career?

The Denver Post -
Nuggets head coach George Karl wants more out of Carmelo Anthony on the defensive end, according to the Denver Post.
"We all think

and so it begins.....

Karl said of Allen, an All-Star shooting guard: ''I think he's pretty -- that worries me sometimes. He's a great human being, but he's gotta become tougher. Ray can become the best player in the N.B.A. if he learns a mean competitive spirit. The best player I ever coached was Gary Payton.
''He's not like Ray. Gary is dirty. He's vicious. He's gonna take you to the point where you might have to fight him, cheat with him, because he is gonna do anything possible to win. I want Ray to be more playground and less Michelangelo.''

We can make up for our blunder. Get Payton out of retirement bring him here and trade him for 'Melo to make George happy.

Marcus Camby basically called out Melo and AI in this week's Sporting News for being defensive liabilities. That has flown WAY under the radar and I'm surprised by that.

Pfft. What does Marcus Camby know about defense?

If I was Camby, I would have been frustrated to be such a great defender in such an awful defense...Melo is a poor defender, but Denver has 11 of them in their 12-man team.

The Nuggets are great proof that no matter how good you are on offense (and I think the Nuggets are the best in the NBA in that area now with the Shaq/Marion trade) it won't matter a lick when it counts if you cannot defend.

The Nuggets are still the #8 defensive team in the league.

They are 11th in FG% D and 26th in PPG D.
11th is higher than I thought for FG%, but I think that stat has been declining now for a few weeks.

They're the fastest pace playing team on the league, which is why they give up so many PPG. My guess is they either don't allow many 3s or don't send their opponents to the line much, which is how they get to 8th in overall DE from 11th in FG% allowed.
You're definitely right about them being on the decline at any rate. The last time I checked they were 5th in DE.

Their biggest problem is playing in the West
If Denver was in the East, they'd be the 3rd or 4th seed and have home court in the first round. In the West, that could mean watching the playoffs.

They need to step it up big time now and quit playing so inconsistently in terms of how the west is going.
denver needs to quit messing with dallas tonight.

Karl is the most predictable man on the planet.
