Blazer fan here wondering if portland might be able to 'convince' the Bucks to swap 1st round picks this coming draft.

It's not quite what you think though.

First, assume the Blazers had aquired Indiana's 10th pick in a previous trade, part of which was pick swaps.

so the blazers would offer two separate trades:

trade 1: the 2008 10th pick + Portland's 2010 1st round pick + 3 million cash for Milwaukee's 7th pick

trade 2: Martell Webster + Channing Frye + the rights to Joel Freeland + 3 million cash for Desmond Mason

basically, Milwaukee would trade Desmond Mason and the 7th pick for Martell Webster, Channing Frye, the rights to Joel freeland, the 10th pick, a 2010 1st round pick, and 6 million cash.

Portland might even be willing to add one of the following: the the 34th pick (memphis), the rights to pettri kaponen, or Josh McRoberts.

any interest in this?

I'd do it.

I don't see the Blazers ever making that deal.

Who would you guys want to take with that 7th pick and why?

it stands for spending paul allen's money. Blazer fans are quick to spend his money in hypothetical deals, but for some reason he seems a little more fond of his money then we are.

But Webster has shown enough promise that the blazers may not want to let go of him and frye in a move to gain 3 spots in the draft. Especially considering that Webster is a viable threat from 3 point range while Mason clearly isn't. And with oden and alridge, portland needs players who can stretch the defense. Webster can do that, but I'm not sure that Mason can.

but if you're concerned about Portland over-paying, then I can certainly remove 3 million and the 2010 1st round pick...don't want you feeling guilty...

So the original deal is:

Blazers Trade:
Channing Frye
Martel Webster
Rights to Joel Freeland
2008 #10 pick
2010 1st round pick (Probably lottery protected or top 8 protected)
6 Million Dollars

Bucks Trade:
2008 #7 pick
Desmond Mason

I might be in the minority here (sarcasm), but I think that the Blazers get taken to the woodshed in this deal. So yes, there would be a lot of interest in it.

That being said, we make this deal even without the 2010 pick there.

While you are at it, why don't you guys absorb Simmons and Gadzuric for us D:

that's open for debate right now and is still quite hypothetical until it becomes clear which players are actually going to declare for the draft.

People are wondering if OJ Mayo or Jarred Bayless will slip down to 7th...probably not.

The Blazer GM may not be thinking of moving up in the draft. He's made comments that he doesn't have as a priority, making the 3rd youngest team in NBA history any younger. He may want more veteran presence.

They are willing to part with Webster and Frye for OJ Mayo? Well, not realy for OJ Mayo, but to move up 3 spots in a draft where they still might not get either player?

This is a really deep draft.
If you trade that pick you need to know that there are 8 kids in this draft who viewed as All Star level talents and 3 or 4 who are potential superstar.

If you trade that pick and Portland takes OJ Mayo to pair with the amazing core of young talent they already have it would simply be example #102 of why teams like the Bucks remain doormats for decades.

If the Bucks do their homework they should get a player in this draft who will be an impact player.

ok then...out with the 2010 pick and 3 of the 6 million!


the simmons and gadzuric contracts are pretty scary, and portland is set up nicely for major cap-space in 2009, so I don't think the blazers would be interested unless Mo Williams was involved. He's also BYC so that complicates things.

In order to abosrb the BYC differential, the trade would have to be large, especially if both bad contracts were involved (and the blazers might be willing to take on one, but probably not both)

Raef Lafrentz and his expiring contract, Webster, Frye, and the 13th pick

for Williams, Mason, Gadzuric, and the 7th pick.

That would be the best case trade for portland but I'd assume you guys would balk.

On the other hand, Lafrentz, Frye, Jarret Jack and the 13th pick

for Williams, Simmons, Gadzurice, & the 7th Pick would be better for Milwaukee, but I'd bet the blazers would balk.

remember, I mentioned this was the 2nd part of a 2 stage trade plan. They moved and received other assets in the first stage as well.

And I can't speak for what blazer management would be willing to do

and in that specific instance you mentioned, they would be moving webster and frye for OJ Mayo and Desmond Mason...a little bit different.
