NY Daily News: Herb chasing Walsh, Larry Brown

Looks like Herb is still trying to pull a rabbit out of his hat.
Walsh only has a handshake agreement with the Knicks with the sticking points being full autonomy over roster decisions and a change in their media policy.
One would believe that full autonomy with the Bucks would be a tough sell to Herb, but perhaps he would cede control.
Throw in the Larry Brown rumor and it may appear that Herb is at least thinking in the right direction.
Whether anything comes of it, we'll see.
If Walsh falls through perhaps Kohl could send a boatload of money to Jerry Wests home and then try to nab Larry Brown.
That would be what you call going big.
Knicks wobbly on Donnie Walsh

Donnie Walsh is waiting to see if he will be granted full autonomy over every basketball-related issue if he joins the Knicks.
There are rumblings that James Dolan will hold a press conference this week to announce his plans to refurbish Madison Square Garden. The announcement of rebuilding the Knicks may have to wait a few more days.
Donnie Walsh has a handshake agreement to succeed Isiah Thomas as Knicks' president, but Walsh is still in talks with Dolan, the Garden chairman, about receiving assurances that he will have autonomy over every basketball-related issue, including the team's infamous media policy.
A source familiar with the talks believes that if Walsh signs a deal with the Knicks, it will happen this week. From all indications, Walsh will join the Knicks, but in the unlikely event that he passes on the job, Walsh has two other plausible options: sitting out one season or running the Milwaukee Bucks.
With Doug Collins reportedly having twice turned down the Bucks, the team is actively trying to recruit Walsh. In fact, a Bucks source claims that team owner Herb Kohl is trying to reunite Walsh and Larry Brown in Milwaukee.
Walsh, of course, would have the final say on who coaches his team and there is no guarantee that Brown, whom he once hired in Indiana, would be his first choice. But Kohl has broached the idea, according to a source.

If Herb could get a Walsh/Brown combo here in Milwaukee I would be quite pumped as a bucks fan.
Sure its not a long term situation since both of those guys are old crusty men, but they could really turn the culture around here if we could lock those guys in place for 3 or 4 years.
Plus if Herb would make this happen, and just step back and cut the checks, I think he could really turn around his negative image that he's developed. I at least would give him alot of credit for changing his tunes and making "real" change happen.
There's no way Walsh or Brown would let Herb call the shots anyways, so it would be a perfect mix.

Yeah MAYBE Herb is going after them or maybe he's just leaking it out to make it look that way.
I remember when Kenny Loften was a prized free agent many years ago. Sal Bando brought him in and had a very public dinner with him but there was never an intention of singing him. Bando used Lofton to make it look like he was serious about paying for a high priced free agent and Lofton used Bando to get a bigger contract.

Walsh and Brown represent my #1 option at each position.
That would be fantastic. At least it appears Kohl is trying.

YES! YES! YES! This is my dream! Do it unky Herb. Open that vault up, and let them swim in it. Light their cigars with hundred dollar bills. DO IT! YES! This is how you can save the Bucks, and your legacy.

If Larry Brown were here we could squash any hope of Derrick Rose or any rookie for that matter. I can promise you Mo Williams and CV definitely would be gone and perhaps Bogut would not be resigned as well. Brown would have about 2 years to turn this crap around, I see a Del Harris makeover, the days of Danny Shayes and Frank brickowski....all to get the beautiful 8th playoff spot.

This sounds WAY to good to come true! I simply can't bring myself to get excited about this; I guess as far as the Bucks go I'm a doubting Thomas (btw, I would love to proven as wrong!)

Guys, be very careful before you drink the Kohl Kook-Aid. Before he hires Sund or Babcock he has to make it look like he tried everyone else first.

For all those saying Larry brown wouldn't take any sh**, my questions is what would Larry Brown do?? The last time Brown coached a lazy, overpaid, team he started to make it old and when no one would listen he just quit. I love the idea of Donnie Walsh but hate the idea of an old, antiquated Larry Brown.
As far as Walsh goes, Woelfel said last week on the radio it wasn't a done done deal with NY, I guess his wife REALLY doesn't want to go back there at all and they would prefer to stay in the midwest, he is keeping his home in Indiana. I guess Kohl met with Walsh 2 days before he fired Larry Harris. My take is that this is Walsh's power play to get full control in NY and it will work. The smart money is on Sund/Babcock still.

Baloney. He would separate the wheat from the chaff. Anybody who is worthy in the pursuit of wins, would play.

So what on the first two. Bogut is becoming a veteran. Why wouldn't they resign a top center?

It would take Brown and Walsh three years, and it wouldn't be an 8th seed (that would happen in year 1). Del Harris sucked (still sucks?) as talent evaluator. Donnie Walsh, not so much.

Or maybe Herb Kohl is feeling his age and wanting to make one last run... Although you may be right, I'm betting on the Knicks to once again screw up an almost done deal and let him fall into Kohl's hands. After all hope is all we Buck fans have!

That's because everybody in the organization ended up being against him. It started with the players, then Isiah joined their side, then the ownership sided with Isiah and the players. All the while, the New York news media was siding with the players and then the fans started believing that. It was the players fault, not his.
At this stage, Kohl would let Brown and Walsh get rid of anyone who doesn't want to be a part of this franchise, going forward. There is no media to worry about in Milwaukee.

Kohl had a chance to make a "last run" when he hired Harris, Porter, Stotts, and LK. Yeah maybe he has finally wised up but I doubt it.

As much as I'd like to see it, I just can't. I'd make Plan #2 a Larry Brown full control hire. That would be better than most options out there. We certainly would get older as a team as he would trade youth for experience - almost guarenteed.

I think he made all of those inexpensive hires, so as to set up the team for an easier sale. He expected to sell the team by now, but found out that nobody wants to buy a perennial loser without a long term home. Especially, no one who will keep the team in Milwaukee.
Now, he understands that he has to try and build a winner, so as to intice an instate buyer, so as to keep his promise and not ruin his legacy.
