OT:Sam Smith/Mike Conley/Bulls blow up article

BTW....Sam Smith is retiring from the trib in the next week or two as the season winds down. From my vantage point the guy will be sorely missed. Think of how much fun we'd have here if Sam worked for MJS. Like him or hate him, he used his soapbox for out of the box ideas.

Anyways in today's article, you could simply do a search and replace using "Bucks" for "Bulls". Says the Bulls have gone as far as they can with this core. It isn't working. Time for a blowup.

What I found interesting was this blurb:

"...The draft offers a bit of intrigue, although perhaps not as much for the Bulls. The Memphis Grizzlies are going to have a high pick, and if they get No. 1 or 2, you can be sure they'll take Memphis' Derrick Rose. That would make rookie point guard Mike Conley, last year's No. 4 overall pick, available. I'm sure the Grizzlies would take a Bulls lottery pick for Conley. Fellow point guard Kyle Lowery also figures to be available..."

We've talked about it in an earlier thread. Assume we can't get Rose...would you trade our #7 pick for Conley?

I don't know whether I would want to do a straight up trade where I give up the #7 pick for Conley, I would want a little more added to this deal where maybe we could dump CV on them for something else.

I absolutely would trade the 7 for Conley.

7 for Conley sold. I didn't think he was worth a top 3 pick last season, but 7, sign me up. Flip Mo or CV for another first, pick up Tyler Smith and you FINALLY have guys who can defend out on the perimeter.

I'd do it in a heartbeat!

I can't see Memphis outright trading Conley so soon......

But it is nice to dream. The #7 pick would be a good asset for them, but as noted in an earlier thread, we maybe have to take back Cardinal.

LOL at CBQ...."Yeah...take CV even if you don't want him"

Too small, skinny frame, can't shoot, & never liked him. I'm in the obvious minority, but I pass. Now if they want to offer Crittenton, Warrick, Collins, Cardinal, and their next year's pick with no protection for our #7, Gadz, & Bobby I'd pull the trigger if there was also a contingency plan involving another pick. Something like CV and whatever for another pick in the teens/twenties for a wing like Tyler Smith or Brandon Rush or BPA that slid.

I'd also have to see who was available at 7 before I made any rash decisions. As of now, I'd prefer to just roll the dice with a Bogut/Love front line combo.

Edit: To add, we should definitely punish Memphis if they come calling for our pick, no reason to just bail them out for their constant acquiring of PGs.

I would love grabbing Conley.

I also think it could help team chemistry with the conley/redd ohio state connection.

Plus the bucks would have a true pg to run the show and get everyone on the team good shots. (no more redd isos)

Be real, CBQ.

Conley went #4 in last year's draft, and has done nothing to hurt his stock. To think that we could get him for #7 is a pipe dream. To think that we could get Memphis to throw in a little bit extra in addition to Conley for our #7 is unthinkable.

pick 7 and CV for conley

Then ship Mo for Haslem

Conley/Sessions
Redd/Bell
Simmons/Mason
Yi/Haslem
Bogut/Haslem

Now that leaves small forward as the only real weakness. However the bucks could try and land childress for a midlevel deal or look around. If we have a decent gm, he should be able to find an athletic/serviceable small forward.

Got to dump him somewhere.. they sound like as good of a place as anywhere else I suppose. :)

Honestly he hasn't hurt or helped his stock.. so if they give up on him because they have a chance at Rose then I would want to make the deal a little sweeter for us.. dump another body and perhaps get another body (and no I don't mean Cardinal).

I think Conley has hurt his stock a notch......

I'd still make this trade.....but Conley hasn't exactly broken out here this season. Yes he's playing in a dysfunctional situation and had some injury issues, but Memphis has to be dissapointed a bit on what he's done so far.

A good opportunity like this makes the absence of a general manager really painful. It's hard to believe that a syndicate that includes a business manager and a lawyer would not recommend spending an extra million or two of Herb's money up front to bring in many millions down the road with the best available GM.

I don't think getting Conley for #7 is unreasonable at all if Memphis wants Rose. Most people think Rose will be better than Conley (as do I). While they are probably high on Conley, I think they would rather build around Rose/Gay/#7 than Rose/Conley/Gay.

That's probably only likely if they get #1 though, if they got #2 they likely take Beasley and keep Conley.

Somehow the word YES - even if I shout it - doesn't seem strong enough.

I'd combine the pick with Villanueva or Yi if necessary. That's how strongly I believe in Conley and what he can do for a team.

I'm really seeing this as a two-player draft (Rose and Beasley) and of the two, Rose is really the only one I want. There are some other nice players like Mayo but nobody else who really wows me. If the Bucks can't get Rose, I'd like to see them make a move to get a major impact player and I believe Conley has all the tools to be a major impact player in this league.

I'd maybe do CV, not Yi. While I like Conley as well, I don't think he's THAT much better than Collison that I would give up Yi as well. CV, while a good scorer, I just want him gone because he doesn't even try on defense.

I like Collison but I don't think he's close to Conley in terms of upside at the PG position. The only PG in this draft who I think compares favorably to Conley is Rose. And I'd take Rose by the slimmest of margins only because he brings more height to the equation.

I'm not down on Mike Conley at all. Deron Williams didn't exactly set the world on fire his rookie season either. I think Conley could have a similar development path.

I happen to think Rose is above Conley by a distinguishable margin, mainly because of size and athletic dominance on Rose's side. I like Conley as a floor general, no question, I just don't think that overall skill level it would be worth it to give up Collison and Yi to get him. I think if the Grizzlies did land Rose, they would happily do #7 and CV for Conley/filler, which I would also do. Giving up Yi instead is too much IMO.
