Bobby's Future Here
Through some incredible inside info from buckskinsfan (wouldn't it be great if the JS ever could get a source like that?), we know that saying Bobby Simmons is disappointed in the milwaukee organiation is an understatement.
We also know that his trade value has most likely compeltely tanked, but it's hard to say how much his poor play has had to do with the coaching, with his motivation (relating both to his feelings about the team nad his tragic family issues this year), with his teammates, or with his injuries.
All that said, is it worth trading him this offseason? He will have an ending deal year after next, but if he's going to tank the chemistry it probably won't be worht keeping him around (just like we did with Mason and Caffey when we last cleaned house). His recent play against NY makes me think he REALLY wishes he was traded...but also that he is still capable of good play.
So what are predictions for his future here? Is it worth trading him, and what could we get for him (probably with others involved) if we decide to?

We know the heat were willing to trade an ending contract for him earlier in the season, and the knicks were more than willing to take him if they could dump Randolph.
I'm hoping there's some team out there like Miami that thinks they could still get a lot out of him, and with only two years left on his deal his contract isn't as bad. If we were willing to take back another player in desperate need of a scenary change or a player with more years on his deal maybe we could get something decent for him.
otherwise, if we package him with something else maybe we could get something decent. I don't think he's untradeable despite all this, but it's certainly far from a given whether or not there's a deal worht making.

Maybe a team that wants our first round pick. I would trade that and Simmons if it came down to it.
Agreed, unless we hit the jackpot our pick is going to be 7th-9th. If someone is willing to take Simmons off our hands with that pick for an expiring, I take it.

Agreed. I've been a supporter of Bobby's and it's good to see him play well lately, like you say though it is a little too late. I don't want to make too many excuses for him but don't underestimate the role that LK's ridiculous rotations throughout the season have played in Bobby's lack of production. In much the same way that CV was affected by them and has produced since finally being given some extended burn, Bobby has been the forgotten guy on the bench pretty much all season. I would also say that unless you've been through a serious long term injury like that it's impossible to know just how difficult it can be to come back from it and just how long it can take to find your confidence again.
I wouldn't want him to be traded this offseason purely because he's a much better player than his current trade value would reflect.

As you said Paul, i think that LK and Bobby Simmons locking horns has had a major impact on his play. Under a new coach i think we will see a more motivated Bobby, and looking at him recently, he looks to have slimmed down and is moving quicker on the court as well. If we are left with just Bobby and Mason at the SF next season, i'd like to see Simmons get the start over Mason. I still think the Clippers Bobby is still in there somewhere, but to get that out of him he needs to be fully motivated.
And once the Clippers Bobby is back, then we can trade him. Or maybe we'll want to keep him if that happens....

So let me get this straight. We could package Bobby with our lottery pick this year...just to get an expiring contract and a role player (if that).
Or, we could wait one more year when Bobby's contract is expiring and package him with our lottery pick for a good player (ala Ray Allen)
Gotta go with option 2.

I think he really needs to continue to work on his conditioning during the offseason and bring his stroke back from his first season with the bucks.
I agree.
We are likely better off keeping Simmons than trading him. He will have less value to another team than he would to us anyway if his trade kicker gets factored in (and Simmons can only consent to waive part of it if that is necessary to make the salaries work). At this point we might as well keep him, unless someone offers us a good deal for him (taking him off our hands without us having to give up something of significant value and/or take back too much garbage in exchange for him).

Really? You're essentially then selling that 7th - 9th pick for $10.56 mil +/- the difference between Simmons 08-09 salary and the player(s) that we get back.
Not only that, but we miss out on the type of opportunity that Isocleas2 mentions: trading Simmons along with something else when SIMMONS is the expiring contract for something better.
The $10.56 mil is certainly significant though.

If the Bucks ship out (Mo/Redd) this offseason, I would think the Bucks would at least consider keeping Bobby around because, somewhere, the points lost in getting rid of (Mo/Redd) will need to be made up somehow.

We're better off keeping him at this point. His value is bottomed out. He becomes an asset at the trade deadline next season. I think he's been a prima donna about the whole Larry K thing, but whatever. If we get a coach next season that he happens to buy into, maybe he turns into the player he was his first season with us.

Yeah, he could be the 3 the Bucks need. The Bucks have a lot of good pieces. While it certainly would be nice to upgrade the pieces, the biggest problem seems that they don't have any quality leadership fitting the pieces together.

I'd have no problem keeping Bobby if he isn't a cancer in the lockerroom. If we hire a real coach and Herb stopped meddling as much this might be the case, otherwise we're at risk of more Bobby "not in the foxhole" Simmons.
I do agree that if we trade Mo or Redd (or both please
) then his shooting would be valued here. If we got rid of them and replaced htem with some defensive minded players maybe Bobby could be inspired to give his all on that end of hte court too.

Left field thought- if we are purely looking for points, could those points come from a returning from injury Adam Morrison if he could be obtained relatively reasonably? Was he as a rookie last year any worse than Bobby has been this year?
Would people do an Ammo for Bobby straight up trade if it was possible (ignoring $ etc) for the team next year for points from the bench if there was to be no Mo or Mike?

Why the hell would you want Adam Morrison? The guy is just a (bad) volume shooter. No defense, no rebounding, nothing but shooting.
