I can't see trading our best player who is locked up long term for a guy who will leave at the first opportunity. it's not like any other all stars are going to come to Milwaukee to replace marion once he leaves. jus t beause he wil have an expiring contract doesn't mea n the bucks will be able to turn it into anything worth while.
Who was the last quality free agent the bucks signed ? Simmons? mason? When was the last time the bucks pulled off a lopsided trade? ford fo CV?
I see no improvement acquiring marion.
Redd would be a great player if he was the second best bucks player and if his other guard loved to play defense and was able to control the flow of the game. The bucks don't need marion. What they need is a guard who can complememnt redd and cover his flaws. Mo is not that player because Mo is too much like redd. mo has a lot of talent, but he doesn't play defense. The Bucks would be better off with a less talented point guard who could distribute the ball, play defense and allow redd to do his reggie miller imitations.

Then you're looking at the deal the wrong way. Marion wouldn't even be given a chance to leave; he'd be dealt before having a chance to do-so.

Bogut wasn't mentioned in this deal.MajorDad wrote:I can't see trading our best player
That's a lot of "ifs" for a player who takes up over a third of the salary cap. I agree that Redd would be better if he had Gary Payton next to him, but that doesn't mean that having him around at $17 million a year is going to help us win a championship.Redd would be a great player if he was the second best bucks player and if his other guard loved to play defense and was able to control the flow of the game.

drugbust, are you saying we'd trade redd for marion and then trade marion immediately for a different player? why not just trade redd for that different player to begin with? i have no problem in trading redd, but i would like to trade him and get a quality player in return who will be here awhile. and by quality player, I don't mean a guy like rickey Davis. I mean a guy who has made the all star team at least once and can put up 20 points a game. I'd also like to acquire a star player who has a few years on his contract. I'd like to acquire Artest.
put Artest at smal forward; allow Mo to be a Sg, and find a pg, or find a point guard put artest at sf and draft mayo or gordon to start at sg and allow Mo to be a 6th man.
I have no problems with trading both redd and Mo. But I want something in return.
I don't really care about the character off court issues of NBA players. it's not as if the past Bucks were squeaky clean off the court. Big Dog and Vin baker had just as many off the court issues as randolph and Artest have had. it's just the Mil Journal doesnt report much of anything about bucks players.

Because Marion has more trade value. He's the better player and has a better contract. Come February, the Bucks would probably see offers from teams looking to make a Finals push and believe Marion to be the missing piece. But they'd also see offers from teams looking to dump salary.
All this said, I don't know why Miami makes this deal.

Good Call! The trade is too risky and does little for the Bucks. Am not that certain that Marion is more valuable than Redd. It really is dependent on the team involved.
