Hammond on Sparky's show

I heard mostly the end of the conversation but Hammond basically said that it all starts with the guard position and that point guard is the most important player on the team followed by the big man. Hammond mentioned 2 types of pg, Billups and Paul, saying both styles could be effective. Hammond also said that the PG does not have to be the leader, he said Rasheed Wallace was the leader of the Pistons even though Billups was the Captain.
A couple of other things he mentioned were he wants to have more people in the front office, Detroit had a bigger front office and he feels it is very important, addressed that with Kohl. Hammond also spoke of keeping Babcock, knows him and his brothers well, considers having someone who knows the lay of the land somewhat valuable.

Thanks for the recap. Hopefully someone else heard the beginning of it. The plan to have more people in the front office is a good hedge against the lawyers.

I heard the whole thing..
*Starts with the PG.
*Second most important is the C
*Need continuity once roster is established (no more blow-ups)
*Says you can mask maybe one poor defender not three
*feels he needs a strong staff to make team successful
*wants to retain Dave Babcock (knows him well apparently)
*talked briefly about leadership.

If anyone could add more, that would be great. I'd guess Sparky's interview would be the best of the bunch.
Good to hear that maybe, just maybe Kohl is going to re-staff the front office and let these guys run with it. I'm fine with Babcock sticking around in his role.
Interesting comment on masking one poor defender, not three. From that you'd have to say that at least two of Redd, CV and Mo are gone.

Makes sense everything he said from what the recaps have stated.. and I tend to agree with his opinion that you can mask one poor defender but not several. Unfortunately we have several poor defenders on this team and to improve things we need to get smart, athletic and committed players to turn things around.
I also agree that probably two (not just one) of the most deficient defenders will be gone. If I had to guess based on his statement about PG being important.. I would guess that Mo Williams and probably CV will be out of here. However, I would also guess that he will move whoever the market is willing to take..so that could end up being Redd and CV if the offer is right. I don't see him just moving one guy though.

Well our best defenders are:
Bogut
Bell
Mason
Sessions
Yi
(in that order)
and its not surprising those are the players I said weeks ago that will be on this roster next season.
no one better mention ruffin or storey

I'd say Mo and CV are the most likely to be moved as well, just based on their D last year among other issues. I want Redd gone, but I don't see it happening THIS offseason, possibly the next one.
I don't think we move the pick, but we will use it on a defender/athlete, that is why I think we are really going to draft Westbrook.
So the core next year very well could be:
Sessions/Bell
Redd/Westbrook
Simmons/Mason
Yi
Bogut
I am hoping we can turn Mo/CV into a very legit starting small forward.
I don't think it's going to be as big of an overhaul as fans think, probably two guys moved. More major moves made next offseason if the team is horrible again.

He seems to have a strong handle on the team. When talking about masking three poor defenders he's clearly referencing Mo, Villanueva and Redd. Dez isn't a very good defender either but he's not as important to the team as the other three. So two of them will have to go. Combine that with his comments about the PG position and what he said the other night about Redd and I think it makes sense to think he'll look to deal Mo and Villanueva this summer while keeping Redd around for the short term.
The other comment that caught my eye was him saying he wanted to retain Babcock. That speaks volumes to who's in charge and, most importantly, who will be in charge of the draft. It will be Hammond.
I'm surprised he didn't mention how a shoot-first PG can be effective. Imagine that.

I wouldn't get too attached to Dez. He has the team's only expiring deal and it's a good-sized number so it will have plenty of value if Hammond chooses to utilize it.

I agree. I was talking more the core players when I said two, I don't consider Mason a core guy just given he's signed one more year, but I do agree he could be moved.

Sparky is the best Bucks media guy in town, and it's not even close.

I think the biggest unanswered question is if Midranger will be traded with Mo.

He is certainly saying the right things. Turning our current roster into what he wants will not be easy.

I agree ..I cannot stand Gary and Cliff those 2 are not real bucks fans like Sparky. and if you call in and Gary doesn't like what your saying he will hang up on you in mid sentence, unlike sparky who loves to talk bucks with anyone.
Sparky should be the 4-6pm guy. Gary and Cliff are starting to turn into ESPN radio now.

Ok, here is the Bucks roster and committed salaries next season:
Redd ($15.78M)
Simmons ($9.92M)
Williams ($8.353M)
Mason ($5.3M)
Gadzuric ($6.246250M)
Bogut ($6.294306M)
Bell ($3.348M)
Yi ($2.986080M)
Villanueva ($3.448050M)
Sessions ($.711517M)
Ten guys under contract. First rounder will definitely make the team so that is 11, the second rounder being high has a very high probability making the team.
I think it is a good assumption Mo/CV/Mason are gone. Those three have a combined salary of $17M. I think we'd be looking to add two players combined to make $17M out of those three guys in two separate deals. Anyone have any ideas on what kind of players we'd be looking at?
