Baron Davis trade?

Post#1 » by DanoMac » Mon Apr 14, 2008 7:53 pm

What about if we were to stay at the #7, draft Russell Westbrook and put him at SG ala Golden State Warriors, and somehow make a Redd for Baron trade.

Milwaukee Receives:
Baron Davis

Golden State Receives:
Michael Redd
Charlie Villanueva

May make sense for Golden State. They have a pretty weak bench outside of Pietrus, and bringing Villanueva off the bench as a pure scorer may be a good idea. They could also choose to continue to run and put CV at SF. They want to re-sign Monta long term, so it gives them a little room to re-sign Monta, put him at PG, and put Redd at SG.

Bucks starting lineup:
Baron
Westbrook
Mason
Yi
Bogut

Warriors starting lineup:
Ellis
Redd
Villanueva
Harrington
Biedrins

It seems Warriors fans are pretty fed up with him (he tends to take some bad shots) and they have had big discussions on their board about trading him. I'd be all for it.

Wow this is new. I wouldn't think GS fans would be mad at Baron Davis. I mean he does play out West and really doesn't have a great second option like the other West playoff teams. He should get some slack.

This board hates Mo Williams's style of PG play....so we'd trade for Baron Davis? He's just a different build than Mo but has the same mentality....chuck.

The reason he looks so good with GS is because of the way they play basketball. They're up and down the court and chuck up shots left and right. Everyone on the roster.

You bring him here in Milwaukee and he wouldn't be able to play like that. I just don't know about his fit with the rest of the players. We all want Bogut to get better and know Mo isn't doing that.....so Baron Davis? No way.

unless the warriors are planning to drastically change their style of play, i think they'd be idiots to trade him.

Um, Baron Davis is probably a top 5 point guard in the NBA, and has the ability to singlehandedly will teams to victory. His athleticism is close to second to none at his position, and the intensity he can bring is awesome. It's not a matter of him fitting in Mil-town, in fact, I think Bogut would love Baron. It's a matter of there's no way in hell this is possible.

Well, I don't know if this means hes going to be traded. But something is just not right for Baron Davis in Golden State.

In the second half of a playoff life or death game, Don Nelson decides to bench Baron after going 2-13 in the first half. The Warriors rally back in the third quarter after being down 10+ to be up one currently.

That said, Baron Davis is still a top flight point guard who can play great defense. So all Mo comparisons can go out the door. He'll shoot when he wants to shoot, in that system. But he's also shown he can be an amazing facilitator as well.

If they move him, I'd love to get in the mix. Very few of his point guards of his caliber become available. He's had success at both New Orleans and Golden State. That says everything right there.

Would absolutely pee my pants if we got Baron Davis for Michael Redd and then drafted Eric Gordon to go with him!

You all and this Westbrook...Forget Westbrook get a Superstar in Eric Gordon if he is there or Michael Beasley!

But Baron Davis would be a godsend of a player to get backed up by Ramon Sessions. Baron is a top 5 PG in the NBA and an absolute great
leader and winner....

Now bring Stephen Jackson along with him who played for Carisle in Indiana did he not? I love both Baron and SJack and move Yi J Redd
and Gadzuric or Villanueva to get them.

Ask for SJack, Baron, and Pietrus or that North Carolina kid they drafted last year and give them Redd, Yi, and or Simmons and Villanueva?

Done!

I don't really understand the Westbrook hype. I think that if I traded Redd, that I would draft Eric Gordon, who would probably be a much cheaper lateral move from Redd. He might even be a better defender than Redd.

Almost every NBA player is a better defender then Redd.

I think Baron Davis has a players option to be a free agent. Just throwing that out there.

Also, Davis doesn't defend anyone. It blows me away that Bucks fans pisck apart Redd for not playing D, and then lust for other players that defend just as poorly.

Don't get me wrong, I love me some Baron Davis. The only thing that got me through this miserable Bucks season is that I would turn to channels 560 - 570 and catch the Suns or Warriors before bed. And when he is on, the stocky bearded one is a top ten NBA player. Seriously, he is that good. But the only way we could land him would hinge on the Warriors willingness to trade him to us for Redd (when they already have a terrific young SG) or take on somethingl like Yi and Mo and a pick... and Bobby Simmons would probably have to be thrown in to make the salary match. And if you think that seems like a fair trade, go propose it to Warriors fans and see what they say.

As awesome as Baron Davis is... count on Hammonds targeting someone a little less spectacular, a little more steady... a guy with size who can defend. Who is available that fits that profile? Javaris Crittendon, Kirk Hinrich, Shawn Livingston, Devin Harris... those are guys that can run a team for Hammond/Carlisle and are not deemed "untouchable" by their current employers.

Heywood was just on Homer's show proposing a Redd/Davis trade. Homer was all over it.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I wanted to put Gordon in my post as to who the Bucks would draft, but knew I'd get flamed for it. I would easily take Gordon over Westbrook, and think he's gonna be an NBA superstar.

Again... I love the idea too. But...

why would Golden State want Redd?

And who would be the Warriors point guard?

Baron is the straw that stirs the drink over there. Baron is the guy that takes the game winning shots. Baron is the guy that put the exclamation point on last year's season with the poster dunk on AK47 in the playoffs. Baron is the guy they seemed to be preparing to resign long term by basically trading Jason Richardson for (Brandan Wright and) cap space.

I think Redd is worth more to our future (as a defensive minded half court team) than most other teams. Granted Redd doesn't defend, but neither does Rip Hamilton. As Hammond said... you can "hide" one guy on defense. Who do you think he was referring to from that Detroit team?

Maybe Chicago would want Redd, maybe Dallas would have some interest (depending on how they do in the playoffs). Orlando would jump all over the prospect of a guy that could make you pay for doubling down on Howard. Utah might be interested (depending on how they do this year in the postseason. So my short list of guys that you could get this offseason for Redd (realistically) include: Josh Howard (maybe), a package of Jameer Nelson and Hedo Turkalo, Kirk Hinrich, and probably Kirilenko. Some of these might require an extra player on our end, or some we would get a little more. But I see these as the most logical trade partners for us IF we trade Redd. But a lot of it depends on how the playoffs shakeup and how players perform and who thinks they are just one move away.

Golden State would never do this. Baron Davis is the heart of their team and their best player, and he also happens to play the most important position on the team. Why would they give up a top 5 point guard in the NBA for a shoot first, no defense shooting guard and a lazy power forward? Not to mention the fact that Davis is also one of the best defensive point guards in the league. It would never happen.

Westbrook would be the top defender and athlete on the team next year, easy. That is why people are clamoring for him. The backcourt needs athleticism badly. Gordon brings scoring, but not much else.

Like it or not Bucks Fans, Michael Redd is not going anywhere until his contract expires. Redd is the face of this franchise. Just like Kobe is for LA and Lebron is for Cleveland. That said, even with a new coach next year and new GM we will still have poor chemistry. Kohl gave Hammond a 5 year deal. For this team to gel it MUST rebuild. Is 5 years enough time to make the Bucks legit again. Kohls wants a winner. With LH handling the Bucks and giving huge contracts to mediocre players like Gaz. Will make the process even longer. After 5 years on the job and Kohls gives Hammond another 5 year contract we might be ok.

Just youtube Westbrook...Very athletic, looks really good on the break in transition. He and Davis would form an awesome, big athletic backcourt.
