OT:Interesting article on Gerald Wallace big FA bust

Ty on his blog has an interesting post.

Essentially he's trying to prove that Gerald Wallace became a wuss after signing his big contract and didn't want to do the dirty work inside this year. It is a good article.

We may have dodged a Tim Thomas bullet here with him getting his big deal from Charlotte last season (of course we still have Mo's deal from last summer)

I said it before in the past but in my 6 years between browsing and posting on this forum Gerald Wallace has to go down as the most overrated player in this board's history.

Gerald was playing out of position at PF. Him playing as hard as he does + playing against bigger bodies is what has led to his injury concerns, and the coaches moving him back to small forward.

He's by no means a wuss. I'd trade any two players on the roster save Bogut for him.

Looking at the by position breakdown, it looks like you're right. Last season he played 12% of the minutes at PF, this season he's up to 42%.

They had an article about it when he was coming back from his concussion. Talked about how his reckless style of play paired with going against guys who had 40 pounds on him consistently, that he was just asking for injuries. The coach already said he will be at SF exclusively next season to avoid the same concerns.

The guy would be an absolute PERFECT fit here at SF.

I'd still love to get Wallace here, especially if we got a great defensive minded coach like Carlisle. With the Bobcats sucking it up another year, it is possible that they decide to bail on him too.

They were hurt pretty badly by poor draft picks. They spent two high lotto choices on Felton and Morrison, neither was a good pick.

Just goes to show how being a spot or two higher or lower in the lotto can completely change a franchise.

If the Bobcats had the 4th pick instead of 5th and the Hornets at the 5th instead of 4th, the Bobcats likley have Chris Paul and the Hornets draft the semi-bust Felton.

The state of each franchise was dramatically altered by simply one spot higher/lower in that draft.

I don't think Felton has been any good in Charlotte.

How about Mo and our 7th pick for Gerald?

He provides a pretty big upgrade over felton along with a nice draft pick and we get our perfect sf.

Thats giving up way too much value for a guy thats been injured a lot.

Felton and Mo are pretty comparable, but yeah IMO Mo is a bit better. If Charlotte was down for that deal I would do it, Gerald would be our best player, bumping Redd/Bogut to 2/3 however you want to rank them, it also gives us a legit defender at the SF that can guard multiple positions, and a guy that can give you 18-20 ppg.

Sessions/Bell
Redd/Mason
Wallace/Simmons
Yi/CV
Bogut/Gadzuric

That's a pretty good offensive bench, but you could make another deal to bring another PG in, using CV and Mason's expiring deal. Use the second rounder on a defender at the PF/C slot.

Not really. The whole idea is to get the most talent. I am an advocate of trading the pick if it allows us to get a player that is better than Redd/Bogut, and Gerald is.

Yes, he has injury concerns, but that is because they were playing him at PF.

I definitely make that deal. Wallace/Yi/Bogut frontcourt moving forward? How can you not like that?

No its not... The jig is up on Mo he's a 6th man combo guard at best.

And don't tell me we can find a player at the 7th pick that would help the bucks problems (athleticism/defense) more than gerald wallace.

i'm not sure that wallace would help us that much defensively, he's kind of a gambler, that's fine in the right situation but i don't think next to redd is the right situation for that.

now, if redd were to be gone and a 6'7" or up athletic shooting guard were to take his place, i think wallace would be great at the 3

Both you and that reporter are idiotic in this assessment and show limited basketball knowledge! GERALD WALLACE IS A BEAST!

A flat out Beast and the most underratted player in the NBA for what he does! That man plays as hard and as all out as any man in the NBA out-side of Artest!

That reporter is off base! You cannot take the one year he has had with the amount of hard nose play he has put in his whole career and say he is garbage!

Gerald Wallace is a flat out gamer and I would trade anyone on this team to get him!!!

I think a gambler is fine, because unlike Redd we'd have a guy that actually gets in the passing lanes and causes some problems.

Basically any type of defender is going to be hurt being paired next to Redd.

the last part is true but if wallace misses on a steal redd is not gonna be much help on rotations

I think that Gerald Wallace is the kind of player I would want to have instead of Redd, not to play next to Redd. Wallace would be a beast playing at the 2 and 3. I think I would find a way to turn Redd into Wallace if I was going to trade for Wallace.

Bobcats have little need for Mo Williams with Jason Richardson in the backcourt next to him since they'd have the same issue we do with ball movement and rancid defense out of the backcourt.

However, Michael Jordan was a big fan of Bobby Simmons, and Charlie Villanueva is also a guy that the Bobcats could certainly use a whole lot. I know I'd have a tough time turning down a Simmons/CV/7 pick for Wallace deal.
