Why Hammond now in place and more than likely a defensive head coach on the way I was thinking about maybe a little different offseason. What if the Bucks did something ALONG(not necessarily exact) these lines.

1) Trade Redd and Gadz to Chicago for L.Hughes and Gooden

2) Trade Mo to Sacramento for Ron Artest

3) Trade CV to Memphis for Lowry

4) Sign Diop to MLE

This would definately give the Bucks a defensive feel. One concern I would have is Artest really having nobody to keep him in check, but hopefully if Carlisle is the new coach he will respect him a little. Also I realize the Bucks would more than likely have to give more than just Mo for Artest, but not sure what.

PG-Lowry/Sessions
SG-Hughes/C.Bell/Dez
SF-Artest/Simmons/Dez
PF-Gooden/Yi
C-Bogut/Diop

If the Bucks do get lucky in the lottery and get Rose, it would make the Bucks look pretty tough.

IIRC, a Pistons fan posted that Hammond hardly made any moves in his first offseason in Detroit. He has already said he wants to get to know the team better. I really doubt we're gonna see any major moves this offseason, unless someone really wants out (CV).

The CV-Lowry and Mo-Haslem trades that have been mentioned on this board do make sense though, especially if the Bucks can pull off both.

Lowry is a nice player, but he's not worth CV IMO

Last time CV was traded for TJ who is about 5 times better than Lowry

I also dont like that Lowry is just barely over 6 foot. I struggle to see him hold his own defensively against premier PG's. I also struggle to see him lead a team to success in the long term.

tj's issues contributed to that though

i agree that cv is worth more than lowry straight up and i'm not enamored with lowry as our future pg

Diop for the MLE would be another Gadz contract. Diop is not that special of a player that you want him locked up for 5 years.


Hughes/Artest/Gooden - While I understand thought process of defenders I don't think that is a good mix. Gooden is dumber than a box of rocks. Artest is just one TV away from another blowup and Hughes hasn't been a choir bo in his time either.

These are three guys that I wouldn't consider Hammond type guys.

I hope we don't use our MLE at all unless we unload some bad contracts first. We don't have a core in place, so how can we know what kind of role players we need to surround them with?

The time to use the MLE (i.e. signing role players to long-term deals) is when you're ready to win 50 games and are hoping to get deeper into the playoffs.

I can't think if many starting fives I've liked less than this one as far as proposals on this board. Lowry/Hughes is arguably the worst offensive backcourt in the NBA. They can defend yes, but not enough to make up for the lack of offense, not to mention Hughes is more overpaid than Redd is. Artest I like, but brings too much baggage. Gooden is dumb as hell and really isn't a good defender and is non-existent as a shotblocker. I think Yi has the potential to be a much better defender than Gooden overall, on top of bringing a lot more athleticism to the table.

Basically, that is the worst backcourt in the league, by a pretty solid margin, Gooden blocks Yi's development and we still don't have our future PG.

I was liking his proposal for a second until you correctly pointed out how many box of rocks type guys we'd be bringing in.

I also can't see Rick Carlisle wanting to be re-united with Ron Artest.

Worst defensively? Likely. Worst overall? No. They do average 40+ ppg combined. Lowry/Hughes is better defensively, but not elite defensively, and both are well below average on offense.

I'd say worse overall when you factor in salary, winning games, and overall contribution including defense which negates alot of the damage they do on the offensive end.

We'll just agree to disagree. No argument both are bad defenders, but Lowry/Hughes are so deficient offense-wise they would definitely be a worse tandem.

Personally, I don't think we're going to move both backcourt guys in the same offseason anyway. More likely is Mo getting moved and us bringing in a defensive, athletic PG in a trade or with the #7 pick (Westbrook).

I'd definitely be satisified with moving mo and drafting westbrook to compete with sessions for minutes at the pg spot.

edited to add:

Neither Mo or Redd are worthless players, but in tandem I just think they compliment each other horribly.

I'd prefer for both to be gone, but I'd be ok with holding onto Redd unless the right deal comes along.
