OT: Xbox 360 (broke)

Post#1 » by showtimesam » Fri Apr 18, 2008 3:01 am

Well my 360 has now conked out on me like it has for so many others.

Sadly I don't have the rings of death so I don't get the free repair. My problem is that the video/sound show up blank on my tv. I've tried vga, component, and also tried my friends tv and cables but the video/sound will not come on any TV.

I'm pretty bummed, I'll pay the 100 dollars to fix it, but next time around I'm going to have to go with Sony.

Anyone else experience the problem I've encountered?

I keep seeing all these threads and from my friends ...it only makes me wonder when the day my 360 breaks.

Even though mine finally broke after 2 years (3 rings, free repair), I've enjoyed it so much that I trust that Microsoft will not make the same mistakes next time around.

If you wrap a towel around it, then it will get the 3 red rings and you will get it repaired for free :D

My suggestion though, trade your 360 in for a PS3. After my Xbox 360 broke down twice I traded it in for a PS3, the best move I have ever made :D

Not the SMARTEST move ever made, but I won't go into that here.

Sorry to hear about your 360. 11 days before GTA IV too, ultra suckage (if you were planning on buying the game that is).

I have heard that the Xbox 360s sold November and later last year (07) are made with higher grade soldering than all the earlier ones and are built to last. So far so good.

Nah my 360 broke like 5 months ago lol, I have owned my PS3 for 4 months now.

Much better console in my opinion than the 360. Free online is absolutely awesome, although I do miss my 360 a little. Just a shame the darn thing is so unreliable.

360's break at a staggering pace and I know this because like I've said before I am the one who sends out broken units to the manufacturer at a Best Buy location. I have both systems so I'm not one of those fan boys, but in the time that both systems have been available, I can still count the number of PS3's I've sent out on both of my hands. 360 on the other hand has to be approaching 500 since released if not more, I could actually check on that if you wanted.

Get this, only one Wii has ever been sent out of our store at least!

I got a 360 when they first came out and it finally died as well. I had sound but no video, also no red rings. But I sent it in and they fixed it for free.

When I called in (India, Ugh), I just lied about it and said I had rings. They had me do a few things over the phone and tell them the results. I didn't do any of it and just lied again that I had red rings. They sent me the coffin and a couple of weeks later I had it back, no charge.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Really?
I should have done that.
I didn't tell her I had the red rings, so it looks like I'll be charged.

I wish I would have been a little more savvy.

I wonder if I could cancel my first call, and then try again with someone else?

Where did you trade your xbox in?

I think they usually check to see if it works or not, but I'd consider that. I'm pretty mad at microsoft right now for manufacturing a shoddy product and I'd be on board going for PS3.

I'd miss halo though

I think I'm going to call microsoft back and tell them that the problem is the Red Rings now so it'll be covered.

I'm currently running it with a towel around it as well so I actually have the red rings.

If you enjoy online gaming absolutely do not switch to a PS3. XBox Live blows away what Sony has.

I figured I had nothing to lose with lying about the red rings. The worst that would happen is they would charge me.

perhaps next time you talk to that guy in India , you should tell him you are the Lord of the red ring.

it's funny, i had a problem with microsoft encarta not working, and i called microsoft and i got that guy from india as well. 3 hours later , the encarta program was still not working and my ear was sweaty. then he sends me an email to ask if his assistance helped me out. My answer to him was that they were stupid to change the name of their main city Bombay! You don't see Chicago changing it's name. what's with major cities changing their name? it's unamerican!

Micky you really need to get rid of that sig, that guy scares the crap out of me lol!

Anyway, When Microsoft send you back a working 360, I suggest you go down to your local gaming store and trade it in for a PS3. You may miss Halo, but you will have other games to play like Resistance, Uncharted, MGS4, Haze and many many many other PS3 exclusives. You will also get free online, and in the next coming updates it is suggested by many people that PS3's online will surpass Xbox Live.

Xbox 360 is a great console no doubt, but crappy hardware ruins it. I really suggest you get a PS3, and if you are that desperate to play Xbox 360, you could probably find a few faulty ones on Ebay which you could just buy for around $70 then send them into Microsoft for a repair.

not to get into it too much, but i'd rather have the console i think is more fun that may break once in a while than another one that doesn't have the games i want just because it won't break down.
