One Trade Team Rebuild

This is my current hope for an offseason plan, where we remake our team in one full swoop:

Bucks trade: '08 draft pick, Michael Redd, Mo Williams, Charlie Villanueva, Dan Gadzuric
Bucks receive: Shawn Marion, Anderson Varajao, Joe Smith, Dacquan Cook, Cavs '08 draft pick

Heat trade: Shawn Marion, Dacquan Cook
Heat receive: Bucks '08 draft pick, Mo Williams, Wally Sczerbiak

Cavs trade: Wally Sczerbiak, Anderson Varajao, Joe Smith, '08 draft pick
Cavs receive: Michael Redd, Charlie Villanueva, Dan Gadzuric

Bucks Roster:

PG: Ramon Sessions
SG: Charlie Bell, Dacquan Cook
SF: Shawn Marion, Bobby Simmons
PF: Yi Jianlian, Joe Smith
C: Andrew Bogut, Anderson Varajao

We would also have the Cavs pick, which I bet we would use on a point guard.

People might bristle at the idea of giving up our pick, but I really don't care. I look at the roster and I see a young team with a lot of room to grow, but also a team with stalwart defensive veterans to ensure that we make the playoffs while we do it. I'm a much bigger Shawn Marion fan than most, so I can understand those who think he's about to hit a rapid decline not wanting to do this deal. I think he'd be the absolutley perfect compliment to Yi Jianlian though, and especially considering he's in a contract year next year I bet we'd see an extremely motivated Marion playing all out with contagious energy which will ensure that our defense takes the massive step up that it needs to.

That team might win 20 games.

I doubt it, but it's possible.

On the bright side we could be looking at upgrading via Ricky Rubio in '09.

Hammond isn't on crack, so he says no

I can't wait until this offseason comes and goes and none of you get the "blowup" you are all hoping for.

Sure, some moves will be made. But not with the magnititude that some of you think.

Hammond is a patient, methodical, smart man. He will make moves that he feels will take us in the right direction. He's not going to be able to take all of our problems and fix them all in one fell swoop.

The worst starting backcourt in the NBA. The worst backcourt in the NBA period.

If you add Chris Douglas-Roberts with the Cavs pick the backcourt doesn't look that bad. That said, I still don't do this deal....

The pistosn started chucky atkins their first year and did ok. I'd be more than fine with having defensive minded unselfish role players in our backcourt for next year, though long term we certainly would have to add a better scorer.

I'm a big Sessions optimist, so maybe that's why I wouldn't worry about the backcourt that much. Mostly though, I think this team would be able to make the playoffs in the pathetic east just from the defense alone. A front court of Marion/Smith/Yi/Bogut/Varajao would be beastly both on D and on the boards.

Almsot as importantly, we would have a backcourt that won't freeze out Bogut and Yi as well. I wasn't expecting the mo or redd lovers to like this deal as I think they highly overestimate both of their trade value, but setting our team up to develop our young players and have the hard working attitude a team needs to win are my two top priorties.

Who are the defensive minded unselfish players in the backcourt?

Is Sessions defensive minded. Is Bell unselfish? Neither showed any indication of that last year.

Anyway, you have to score points to win a basketball game. Who on that team has shown any sort of ability to consistently create their own shot?

Bells defensive minded and sessions is unselfish

That said, this trade is too much of a fantasy to really discuss.

that'd be offloading a lot of solid individual pieces for not much in return. an all-star, two potential all-stars and a #6. for essentially shawn marion.

where is mason in all of this?

i'm with the above guys. this could be 25 wins at best.

I really like Cook, think he's going to be a serious player. But no.

After Wade's injury left Marion as the only legitimate go to guy on the Heat, Marion quietly accepted sitting on the bench and watching the scrubs try their best to win games. I doubt if Marion would be happy coming here to play with more scrubs. Had Wade been healthy and the Heat were in contention for a playoff spot, I'm sure Marion would have been in uniform.

I'd keep our pick Rafer and hope to land solid rookies that will eventually make playing in Milwaukee a more attractive prospect for top tier free agents and veterans.
