Offseason Plan: Goal - Playoffs

Well, I haven't done one of these this year so I thought I'd throw mine out there with some new ideas that I haven't seen in other threads.

The goal is to make the playoffs, have lineup versatility and provide Skiles with defenders.

Trade #1: Mo Williams/Bobby Simmons/1st Round (#7) pick for Andrei Kirilenko/First Round Pick (#23)

- The Bucks do this to acquire an elite defender who can play both the SF and PF spot. His versatility and shotblocking give the Bucks plenty of lineup options. The Bucks don't have anyone they are enamored with at the 7 spot so they move down and can grab a guy like CDR or Brandon Rush. Personally, I want to see them surprise everyone and get the bruiser we need. Bucks take Joey Dorsey.

Note: AK's versatility is what makes this deal so attractive. If Yi is ready to start (in Skiles mind) then AK becomes our starting SF and a front line of AK/YI/Bogut is very long and defensively has great potential.

If Skiles doesn't think Yi is ready to start AK becomes our starting PF which I think he would have no problem in the east competing and when Yi is ready he moves back to the SF spot.

- The Jazz do this to get rid of a guy with a horrible contract to be reduced to a role player. Jerry Sloan has mentioned that letting Mo go was a huge mistake. By taking on his contract they get a lethal scorer to bring off the bench, a defender at the SF spot, and they move up in the draft.

Trade #2: Bucks trade Charlie Villanueva/2nd round pick for Hakim Warrick and Kyle Lowry

- The Bucks do this because they are going nowhere with CV and he has openly been lobbying for a trade. CV would love this because Memphis provides him a chance to be a starter and next to Rudy Gay (a former teammate at UCONN). Memphis goes forward with Conley, Gay and CV

- Memphis isn't sold on Hakim Warrick as a starter although he did put up stats at the end of the season. They decide to take a chance on CV and Lowry isn't in their long term plans either. They take a 2nd round pick for him to try and take a flyer on someone else.

FREE AGENCY

- Bucks sign Keyon Dooling to a 2-year $6M contract.

Dooling has seen little playing time in Orlando. He is an unrestricted free agent and he is a defender. He is basically what Royal Ivey was supposed to be. He is quick, can get to the rim, and he can defend. Definitely a Skiles type player

- Bucks make an offer to Ryan Gomes - 3YR/$12M deal. He is a restricted free agent with Minnesota and I'm not sure how he plays into their long term plans at the SF spot since they just drafted Corey Brewer. If MN matches then the Bucks turn their attention to Dorrell Wright.

Bucks go into the season with this as their roster

Sessions/Dooling/Lowry
Redd/Bell/Mason
AK47/Gomes/Mason
Yi/AK/Warrick/Dorsey
Bogut/Dorsey/Gadz

I don't think Kohl signs off on the first trade because he would now have three high-priced players (Redd, Bogut and Kirilenko) on the roster. And while I think the Jazz would again be open to trading AK47 I don't see them wanting Mo back. He won't start at PG obviously and I'm not sure the Jazz would want to pay nearly $9M for him to come off the bench when they already have a good scorer in that role in Korver. That sure would be a great trade for the Bucks, though.

But we have two high priced players leaving the roster and one much more talented player coming in.

Contract wise the Bucks actually come out winners since Mo's deal is for 4-5 years (depending if he opts out) while AK has 3 years left. We lose out on Simmons expiring.

But the Jazz go for this if they are interested in moving up into the lottery.

I don't see teams lining up to give a first round pick up for AK.

I would have no problem giving up ours if we get theirs. There are gonig to be some good players available later down in the draft.

I'm not on the AK47 train anymore, only because I think playing with Yi, those guys collectively will be too physically weak and neither have the lateral quickness to guard SF's.

I would have loved a Redd/AK47 trade last summer before we got Yi. I just am not sure he fits here well right now.
