2009 Available Free Agents

Post#1 » by smooth 'lil balla » Tue Feb 10, 2009 5:59 pm

Everyone is clamoring for us to trade RJ. Can someone please indicate what you think we're going to do with the cap space if we trade him? Who can we target? Who can we sign? This includes our own free agents.

Getting rid of RJ doesn't get us below the cap for next year. It means we can, if we wish, bring back Sessions and CV without paying the luxury tax.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

You may want to read, oh, about 90% of the threads created since Inauguration Day if you're confused.

Nope, I didn't know. I didn't know that by trading RJ we essentially free up no cap space, and all we can do is resign our own guys, something we could already do. Sorry I'm not as smart as you guys, but it sure is fun to pile on. What are you, 3rd graders?

We can't re-sign our own guys if Kohl doesn't want to go into the luxury tax (which he has shown no indication of wanting to do), so no, it isn't something that we could still do with RJ.

What trading RJ does is it allows us to not go over the luxury tax limit by re-signing both Sessions and CV. If we keep RJ, we're at $64.6M committed next year. If you add first rounder, possibly Ersan, and both Sessions and CV, you're looking at $80M+ easy, which is not feasible. That is $80M committed plus another $6M that Kohl has to throw in for lux tax.

Kohl might go into luxury tax a little bit. Cause Redd's insurance is paying 80% of the tab.

This thread could be useful in listing free agents who other teams with cap space might target, instead of Ramon and Charlie.

However, we better find any expiring deal in which Richard like salary is cut from our team in the off season, as resigning the dynamic duo is better than getting one.

Thanks for those who are civil. I knew we could realistically target any real free agents. That was the point of the thread. IF Kohl's willing to go luxury tax, i think we are best off keeping RJ. I also worry about CV putting up good numbers in a contract year.

Ramon is a keeper, and I think Kohl would pay luxury tax to keep him.

Glad to know how little I'm respected. Time to check out.

I'm not sure why people jumped all over you. If you don't read the board every day you are going to miss a lot of discussions, and I don't see the harm in you asking this question since you were confused about why people would want to trade RJ for an expiring.

That thread goes into a lot of what our financial situation looks like.

Oops, forgot Ariza. Also didn't list anyone who will likely exercise the player option (Okur for example).
