Trade Exception Question on TI

Post#1 » by El Sid » Tue Feb 17, 2009 5:31 pm

The Miami Heat are looking for a good point guard to add to their depth among other things right now. They have a $4.2 million trade exception from the Toronto trade and their long-term goal is to have cap space for 2010 obviously.

Could Miami use their $4.2 exception along with a small contract player to trade for Ridnour?

Ridnour would expire in perfect time for them and the Bucks would clear his $6.5 million for this off-season.

I'm just wondering if something like the $4.2 exception and Smush Parker(expiring) for Ridnour would work?

I don't think you can combine a TPE w/ another salary asset (parker) to get 1 asset (Luke)

not sure - need GAD or someone

Very good try though...

Miami cut Smush, which means they can't trade his contract even though they are still paying him.

Correct. Salary must fit completely within that non-simultaneous TPE
