Blackhawks sign Hossa

The Chicago Blackhawks have signed star winger Marian Hossa to a 12-year deal.

Sources tell ESPN.com the deal is worth an average of $5.2 million a year.

Hossa had 40 goals and 31 assists for the Western Conference champion Detroit Red Wings last season, but was held without a goal in the Stanley Cup finals. In 775 career games he has 339 goals and 380 assists.

Holy ****, was not expecting any major moves this offseason! He'll be here till 2021, that's actually pretty scary...

5.2 is less than what Havlat is going making. We got Hossa for cheaper than Havlat. And the average of the deal goes towards the cap, so frontloading does not matter. Hopefully Dale does the same for Kane/Toews/Keith.

Some of our bloated salaries are coming off the books, so we may see some trades soon.

12 years is ridiculous, means he'll be 42 when his contract is up. But Hossa is a dynamic offensive talent, so there I can't complain. Also doesn't have the injury history of Havlat, whom I would assume would be on his way out.

Havlat- Thanks to all Hawks fans for your love and support over the last 3 years. Will never forget your generousity and the great playoff run!

-Hossa is a good friend and I am happy for him.

What a classy guy, hopefully he stays healthy in Minnesota.
