Rivalry breaking up??

Post#1 » by Dominator83 » Fri Mar 8, 2013 12:54 pm

Hey guys. Not much of a hockey guy and my first time ever posting on this board, but what I saw earlier even caught my eye. Read about the new NHL realignment setup, and noticed that the Hawks and Red wings will be broken up. Thats kinda weird to me considering that theyre one of the NHLs biggest rivalries, if not THE biggest. Wouldnt that be the equivalent of the NFL realigning and breaking up the Bears/Packers??

I hadn't really thought about that. I guess the rivalry will remain, but it will be a bit different with them not being in the same group.

Not even the same conference anymore either. I guess the rivalry would be heightened though if they were to ever meet in the finals

That's a good point as well. Could you imagine a Blackhawks v Red Wings Stanley Cup Finals?! That would be intense!

Honestly it's the 2nd or 3rd biggest rivalry in the NHL. Sad to see it go, but there are positives i guess to this re-alignment. I can see new rivalries forming with teams like Colorado.
