NHL11 on PS3 question

I'm hoping some of you guys here also play NHL11 so you can answer a question for me. I just started a season as the Hawks, and the first game is against the Av's. I was on the PK and when I got the puck, I just started skating around in circles with the player that I was in control of at the time (Seabrook I think) trying to waste as much time as I could until the penalty was over, and all of a sudden he fell over for no reason right in front of the net and the Av's scored a PP goal. That was the second time that had happened in the game, so I'm wondering if it is something that I have done (pressed the wrong combination of buttons or something) or if the game is set up so that you can't skate around in circles wasting time? Can anyone give me an answer on this?

He fell because you kept making him turn on tight corners and he lost his edge. If a player does that in a real game chances are he loses his edge and falls.

You should've just cleared the puck down ice like they always do.

Ahhhh, I see. I was going to just clear the puck down the ice but I figured I could be a smartass and waste time until their PP was over lol.
