Might want to fire this one up since this team will be doing some things tomorrow.

Hawks sign Montador for 4-years, $11 million

Sportsnet.ca is reporting that Montador was signed to a four-year deal worth $11 million on Thursday afternoon. The defenseman, whose negotiating rights the Blackhawks acquired from the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night, will make $2.75 million according to Sportsnet.ca’s report.

This morning Bowman said the 31-year-old Montador, who blocked 138 shots last season with the Sabres, is “a style of defenseman we’ve been lacking here.”

“He’s a got a lot of skill for a guy who has some physicality to his game. He’s actually pretty offensive even though people don’t paint him in that light,” said Bowman of Montador, who had a career-high 21 assists last season.

I don't know anything about the bloke so I can't really judge him, but I read some scouting reports on him and it didn't really make him sound like anything more than a 3rd pairing guy. If that's the case, then I have to wonder if that was a wise investment at that price.

So now we gotta like this guy?

Carcillo spent the 2010-11 season with the Flyers, collecting six points and 127 penalty minutes. He was originally selected by the Penguins in the third round of the 2003 draft.

So with these 5 + Montador, Hawks pretty much filled up roster spaces; assuming re-signing Frolic and Campoli. Not much (one spot ?), or any room for a young talent possibly making the team.

Or are some of these FA signings simply bodies that'll spend time in the minors ? And how does their salary count against the cap if they're cut in training camp or kept in the minors ? I'm not up on how the NHL cap salary system works.
TGibson (1/28/17); "..."a 4 or 5 on a scale of 1 to 10 for drama"...What's the worst? "...yelling matches with Thibs, everybody is just going crazy and I'm just sitting there...like, 'Don't call my name please..."

wow, alot of moves by SB here....

DC was a shocker lol... Let's hope he fits in the locker room and also fits that enforcer role on the ice for 8-10 ice time.

Abrunette is a solid move... good rental and mentor role for us for a year

Matador?? That's a heck of a deal... Why? Had to replace campbell I suppose, but damn that's another bad deal.

All the 1 year deals I can't argue with... good value and just gives the youngs some mentors to be honest. Brunette being the best in my view.
