Hawks Prospects for 2016-2017 Season

Post#1 » by GRADEN » Sun Jul 10, 2016 4:48 pm

Well I'll do a full rundown before season (will edit this) but if you look at team C forwards that's basically the list of guys that will get big league IT this season... Obviously guys like McNiel, Schmaltzy, Hino, and Hartman will continue to move up and should all get their chances in spelling our main guys throughout the season...

Also of note remember when we drafted 18 year olds forsling and press and I just lost it on good they will be? Well they are almost ready too... And they are going to be great just as I thought :)

Thoughts on our organizational depth at the prospect levels? Guy under the radar?

Here's a short vid, which will also take you to a DeBrincat interview. Also a rundown from the first day or two of camp.

Schmaltz looking "impressive" and DeBrincat "strong with the puck despite his small size."

Apple needs to invent a space predictive c/p function.... I always have to regroup and I hate it lol...

I think it's universal that Schmaltzy is the top dog in our system... He will get his shots early and often

There is more of a need on D though so look out for my 2 boys!!!!! Please don't trade either Stan please!!!!!!! Forsling / Press!!!!!!

Based on the reviews I've read on Forsling, there's no way Stan would move him. Pokka, maybe for a forward and that'd be because they see Forsling as a not to distant future BlackHawk.

Apparently Radke has looked impressive at camp and may surprise.

Prospect Camp - wrap up
http://blackhawkup.com/2016/07/15/chicago-blackhawks-future-friday-prospect-camp-wrap/
You can get each individual days review from the above link.

Major Takeaways
...Kempny showed in camp that he is more than capable of handling himself at a high level. He seemed to be far and above the best defenseman in camp and could very well be the fifth or sixth defenseman in the Blackhawks grouping consistently all season
....Hinostroza is still a front-runner and Hartman did well, but Nick Schmaltz might have been the second-best forward prospect all of camp. ... Schmaltz is fast, handles the puck well, has a great shot, and opens up a lot of quality chances for teammates.
... Along with Schmaltz, Tyler Motte and Tanner Kero had good showing throughout camp and will most likely jump between the Blackhawks and Rockford IceHogs this year.
...and Alex DeBrincat could be super-fun to watch on the 2017-18 Blackhawks team. DeBrincat lived up to his billing all through camp, very fast, great with the puck, always creating chances, and yes, small.
...For Graham Knott, it seems his on-ice confidence needs a kick-start. He has the size and skill to be a great net-front player, but his skating can get him behind in a faster-paced game.
...Alexandre Fortin has definitely played his way into a contract with the Blackhawks. ... Fortin was the hands-down surprise of the camp. Undrafted and without a deal, Fortin came in looking to make a huge impact and he did just that. Fast feet, fast hands, always around the puck and looking to score.
...In net, as stated before, Matt Tomkins made some good impressions but he and the rest of the goaltending prospect were overshadowed by Wouter Peeters. Literally and figuratively. The six-foot-five, 17-year old Peeters was by far the best looking goalie at prospect camp. He’ll return to Europe next season...

From other reviews I read, Roy Radke, John Hayden, G Forsling and Mathias From all showed well.

*note I've now highlighted these players in the rosters I posted above.
TGibson (1/28/17); "..."a 4 or 5 on a scale of 1 to 10 for drama"...What's the worst? "...yelling matches with Thibs, everybody is just going crazy and I'm just sitting there...like, 'Don't call my name please..."

Thanks for the info guys. I've heard a lot of good things about Fortin too and I'm excited to see what he can do. The two guys I'm probably most excited about from the forwards is Schmaltz and DeBrincat. Schmaltz was a high pick and really highly rated ever since his draft day, and it sounds like he's ready to go this season. DeBrincat is probably a year or two away but just sounds exciting as hell to watch. It might be a nightmare defensively, but I'd love to see a Panarin - Kane - DeBrincat line get some ice time at some point. It's got highlights written all over it.

In the blue line, I've been hoping to see Forsling get a shot for a while now. I know he's only young but I like what I've heard and want to see what he can deliver. Even if he gets a contract though, I expect he'll spend most of next season in Rockford. I'm expecting our regular six defensemen to be Keith, Seabrook, Hjalmarsson, Campbell, Kempny and some combination of Rozsival, TVR and mYbe Gustafson in the 6th spot. That could all change though if we're hit with injuries.
