Hawks 6-4-4 at the 1/4 season mark

Umm wow.

9/10 last points taken... 4/4 against Stanley cup final Stars on the road?

Playing timely defense and A+ special teams too. Most impressive is the fact that all these aspects of good play are being displayed by our surprising depth. Janmark 5 goals lately, Kurashev and Suter bouncing around showing speed and top 6 skill.

Beaudin maybe the most surprising out of anyone. He is playing in all situations and getting 2nd pairing TOI. He looks calm and smooth and has some good activation awareness which is something difficult for Zadorov and Boqvist. He looks good. Makes some of the other guys look expendable.

So far this season they’ve hit on all their trial guys.... Hagel looks tremendous, KL32 an instant starter, Kurashev a top 6 playmaker and Beaudin maybe a top 4 surprise.

Mitchell has been ok... maybe better in first week. His best asset is still his passing. Excellent passer to second blue line.

Zadorov still bad... de Haan average / smart as heck, but very average to below average skill.... and the biggest worry is Boqvist... which skipping RIH is becoming a clear misstep.

16 pts in 14 games is a huge surprise... if you told me they had 8pts in 14 games before season I’d say that was about right.

That bad 6-5 loss dropped us from exactly mid point of the league to picking 10th in point % after 15 games.

The D last night was awful and unfortunately the goaltending was subpar. 43 shots to a bad offensive team (ok average) is not acceptable. Janmark was horrible last night. Kurashev wasn’t noticeable... Beaudin despite great offensive calmness made 2-3 terrible holds trying to split the middle.

The cat on the other hand.... wow. He has been playing like a top 25 player in the league guy the entire season... he is relentless and incredibly skilled. Whereas Panarin and Kane were almost the same exact player DeBrincat also has a gritty style to him. He should never win a board battle against 6’4 220 Seth Jones but he did it and it led to a goal.

Overall... kinda sloppy game with rebounds and defensive lapses. Offensively they were great on capitalizing. Hagel, Cat, Kane, soderberg, kampf all with A level games last night.
