NEW YORK -- Chicago Blackhawks right wing Patrick Kane, whose 16 points (five goals, 11 assists) were the most by an NHL rookie in October since 1992-93, has been named the League's Rookie of the Month.
Kane edged Blackhawks linemate Jonathan Toews (5-5--10 in 10 games), Edmonton Oilers forwards Andrew Cogliano (3-5--8 in 13 games) and Sam Gagner (1-6--7 in 12 games), and Minnesota Wild goaltender Josh Harding (2-2-1, 2.36 goals-against-average and .925 save percentage) for the award.
Kane tallied points in nine of 12 games and finished the month as the Blackhawks' scoring leader. His shootout goal against childhood hero Dominik Hasek in his second NHL game gave the Blackhawks their first victory of the season, a 4-3 decision over Detroit Oct. 6. He tallied his first career goal and added two assists in a 5-3 win over Colorado Oct. 19 and posted a career-high four points (two goals, two assists) in a 7-4 loss to Columbus Oct. 23. Kane earned points on nearly half of Chicago
