The Montreal Canadiens acquired Robert Lang from the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2010.

Lang, 37, will be starting his 15th NHL season.

"Robert is a quality guy and we appreciate that he gave us everything that he had but this move gives one of our great young players an opportunity to step up," Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon said in a statement released by the team. "We are excited about adding a second-round draft pick in 2010 as we continue with our philosophy of building from within."

Lang started out in 1992 with the Los Angeles Kings and has played 875 regular-season games in the league.

He's been solid pretty much ever year, but a big contract had to go somewhere.

Where are we at salary wise for next season? I thought Khabibulin would be traded to clear space but maybe Dale Tallon wants to keep his word of having both Nikolai and Cristobal.
