http://www.suntimes.com/sports/hockey/b ... 22.articleThe Blackhawks confirmed Wednesday that newly-signed winger Marian Hossa has a shoulder injury, the extent of which is uncertain.
``He’s rehabbing and we’re monitoring it,’’ a Hawks’ spokesman said. ``We knew about it when we signed him.’’
Hossa scored 40 goals for the Detroit Red Wings last season but his play tailed off in the Stanley Cup playoffs, suggesting the injury may have occurred during postseason play.
The Hawks signed Hossa, 30, to a 12-year $62.8 million contract -- the biggest in franchise history -- on July 1.
Fun, fun, fun.

This isn't the end of the world, but it's not a good situation by any stretch. I really hope Bowman comes to his sense and trades Versteeg over Sharp, since now Sharp may be very much needed for the first few months of the season.
The Hawks should be good enough to manage without Hossa for a few months if Hossa does have surgery.

Funny how this news was released after the convention.

Out for the first 2 months of the season. Guess it's not too bad. Rather have him healthy for the 2nd half of the season than getting hurt in the first month and missing the rest of the season. We have plenty of depth to replace him with for now. Hopefully Kyle Beach gets a shot.

Instead of signing an oft-injured winger, the Blackhawks signed...and injured winger.
Oh the ironing.

Chicago Tribune - Blackhawks chairman Rocky Wirtz admitted on Friday that the team didn't give Marian Hossa a physical before they signed him.
Hossa had shoulder surgery on Friday that will cause him to miss four months of action.
"Dr. [Michael] Terry looked at the MRIs before we signed," Wirtz said. "There was still a chance he didn't need an operation. It's a small tear, we knew that. We thought it was 50-50 he could play with it. We knew exactly what it was. It wasn't where it was questionable or it would be severe. Dr. Terry, one of his specialties is shoulders, and he said he'll miss 19 to 20 games. It could be longer, of course. You have to depend on his advice. That's what he's telling us."

What an difference a year makes in terms of offseasons. Last year this organization could do no wrong. Now they can do no right.
