The Edmonton Oilers signed 2007 first round draft pick Alex Plante to an entry level contract on Thursday.

The Calgary Hitmen defenceman, who was drafted 15th overall, will collect an averge of $1.075 million per season over the three-year deal.

Last season, Plante scored eight goals and added 37 assists for 45 points and 157 penalty minutes in 68 games.

Seems like he's developed quite nicely into the player we though he could become. If he keeps going like this he's going to be a force on our blueline for a long time.

If he stays healthy and improves his skating, that is. In which case his development will have gone just about as well as it could have, considering he was always something of a hit or miss prospect.
