Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - The Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday signed defenseman Ladislav Smid to a two-year contract.
Originally taken ninth overall by Anaheim in 2004, Smid was traded to Edmonton following the 2005-06 season as part of the deal for defenseman Chris Pronger. In 202 career games, all with the Oilers, the Czech has registered three goals and 25 points.
The Oilers also announced that they have signed forwards Gilbert Brule and Ryan Stone to one-year, two-way contracts.
Glad to see that we're hanging onto Smid and Brule. Both were high draft picks and both have a ton of talent. Hopefully under Quinn they can get the chance to reach their full potential and I really hope Brule gets to play on a consistent basis now that Brodziak is gone.
