I don't blame you leaving, and I appreciate the finer years you gave us.
The Sharks began to retool their defense Thursday, signing free agent Rob Blake to a one-year, $5 million contract and making a strong bid to lure the much-in-demand Dan Boyle from the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Blake, at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, provides an intimidating presence and a powerful slap shot. He also becomes the only player in the Sharks' lineup with a Stanley Cup ring and the first to have earned the Norris Trophy given annually to the NHL's top defenseman.
"He's a great professional and he trains hard and he takes pride in his game," Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson said of Blake, whose 17-year NHL career has been divided between the Los Angeles Kings and Colorado Avalanche.
