Wild get Dany Heatley

Post#1 » by Tha Juice » Mon Jul 4, 2011 4:10 am

The San Jose Sharks continue to shake up a roster that fell just one step short of reaching the Stanley Cup Final this past year.

Late Sunday night, San Jose GM Doug Wilson found a familiar trading partner in Minnesota GM Chuck Fletcher to make the second blockbuster between the two teams in just eight days. This time, Wilson moved Dany Heatley to Minnesota in exchange for Martin Havlat.

For Wilson, it was the matter of filling another area in which he felt his team was lacking, the same philosophy that drove him to trade promising young forward Devin Setoguchi to the Wild for defenseman Brent Burns during last week’s Entry Draft.

"When players that we have targeted become available, you need to be able to react quickly and you also have to pay a price in order to acquire them," Wilson said in a release "When we made thebrent Burns trade, we knew we still needed to address our speed up front and we think the acquisition of Marty does that.

"We truly appreciate everything that Dany brought to our organization," stated Wilson. "He is a tremendous professional and we wish him the best."

Havlat, 30, posted 62 points (22 goals, 40 assists) in 78 regular-season games, which tied for the team lead in Minnesota. He also tied for the team lead in game-winning goals (4) and led the team in shots (229).

The 10-year veteran has 512 points in 621 career regular-season games with Minnesota, Chicago and Ottawa. He has also proven his worth in the playoffs with 49 points in 67 Stanley Cup Playoff games. He has 28 points in his past 26 postseason contests.

"Marty is a player that we have had an interest in for a long time," said Wilson. "He can play either wing and brings creativity and breakaway speed to our group of top-six forwards. We are excited about the versatility he adds to our lineup."

Heatley, 30, played 162 out of a possible 164 games for the Sharks during the past two seasons, scoring 146 points, including 65 goals.

Looks promissing. I might watch a Wild game or two next season if the lockout is still not solved then.

I really thought this deal would end badly for the WIld. But so far Heatley's looked solid for the Wild and Setoguchi's been amazing.
