Go Habs Go!!

It is rather slow here isn't it. I moderate another Habs board, but I'm always looking around for Habs talk.
I have to say I'm quite optimistic about the team right now in general. The injuries to Briesbois, Begin and Smolinksi forced Gainey to go with the kids and maybe he's finally learning that a re-building program needs to be just that....a re-building program and not a half-hearted attempt that includes has-beens like Smolinksi and Brisebois.
The splitting up of Higgins and Koivu was the smartest move Carbonneau has made all year even if it was probably an accident that resulted from his interminable line changes. That move has been a boost to Sergei Kostsitsyn and Latendresse. Lapierre has provided the kind of grit and physical presence that was lacking on the scoring lines. Andrei K is getting better with every game and will be a dominant player by season's end. Add in the renaissance of Kovalev, the great two-way play of Hamrlik and goaltending depth and we have all the ingredients for a good playoff run. I'd love to see Gainey make a deadline move for a big veteran D like Adam Foote or Rob Blake, but I wouldn't hold my breath. A move like that could spell a deep playoff run.
I just hope we can avoid the flu bug that decimated the team last year at this time. Koivu has already been effected and now Huet will miss the Saturday game vs Washington. BTW, that game is 12:30 EST start. Don't miss it.

Thank-you very much. Was the Bruins game killer stuff or what? That had to be one of the roughest games I've seen by the Habs in years. Komisarek is an ox. This team won't be intimidated. I do hope Gainey will attempt to find a legitimate enforcer soon as I don't want to see what happened to O'Byrne happen to anyone else. We can't have Komisarek fighting.
