Re: Wolves at Cavaliers, 5:00 pm: The Pain Train Continues
Only watched the second half- thought KAT had a great game. I sometimes question his heart, but he was gaming tonight. I swear Rudy's hands have regressed since leaving the Jazz, but he altered a lot of shots in crunch time.
Dlo just isn't great. Who cares if your first half is great, if when the game matters it is subpar. Also, don't hate me, but I think you need a new coach. Finch has been unimpressive so far IMO.
Hopefully beating this team on the road, starts to get things turned around.

So this was DLo’s one good game out of 10.
It is a floor and ceiling issue. Dlo has never mastered consistency. He is paid for his ceiling, and despised for his floor. Add bad defense to the mix and that is where we are at. I don’t think it is as bad as 1 of 10, but it could be as bad as 1 of 4 or 5 will be a good game.

Yup. And even though he was excellent shooting and distributing tonight, down the stretch, he was missing free throws, turning the ball over and playing zero defense.

2 missed free throws out of 6 (although one was in crunch time during the foul game,) and 2 turnovers with 12 assists is acceptable. Only grabbing 2 rebounds and not playing defense is not. Dlo might slowly be realizing that his starting role is likely to go away and his salary might have one in the first digit instead of a two or a three. He MUST start showing his ceiling and especially improve his defense if he wants anything long term from anyone, including a starting role.

We shot 56%, took 34 FTs, and still almost lost to a team missing 2 key players that missed 12 FTs.
We got absolutely cooked the last 3 quarters. Super quick whistle tonight, was not a fan.
The defense is beyond awful and Finch makes no adjustments when there is only one guy on the Cavs who was a reliable bucket.
Our guard defense is abysmal and if we don't change our coverage we are going to keep getting cooked.
Going to have to start trapping the elite ballhandlers.
Ant was terrible. D-lo finally had that once every couple weeks good shooting game but gave back more than he scored on the other end. At least he ran the offense decent this game.
If there is one silver lining it is that KAT looked awesome offensively and maybe he is finding something that works playhing with Rudy.
But this was an ugly win. We would have been cooked if they had mitchell and allen.

Did anyone else notice that strange moment in the third quarter when Rudy pushed D-Lo pretty hard to make a throw-in quicker ?
I wonder to what extent this is indicative of locker room problems or not...

You're back huh? Go back to rooting for the 6ers and get off our board.

He might be a troll, but he isn't wrong. It's a different game if they are there. Who knows, we still could have won.Note30 wrote:HHS43 wrote:It was nice of Cleveland to sit Mitchell & Allen

Garland shoots less, and I doubt Dlo shoots worse. We probably win by more. Not because those guys are bad, but just circumstances work out better for us.

Who stops DM? Allen would have kept up with Rudy on the glass. Can't say how it would have gone, but they are one of the best, we are bottom feeders. Trap game for them if both play?winforlose wrote:mplsfonz23 wrote:He might be a troll, but he isn't wrong. It's a different game if they are there. Who knows, we still could have won.Note30 wrote:

Maybe, but DM wasn’t gonna out for Garland. Both teams shot well enough the boards wouldn’t matter as much. I still think we win by a bigger margin if the things that went well for Cleveland are disrupted. Also DM isn’t exactly a world class defender.

It seemed like DLo was saying something beforehand. Obviously I don't know what it was about but given the shove I'd imagine it was something about Rudy rotating to contain the drive, which justifies Gobert because it was Russel that got beat so easily.
They really need to get rid of DLo. If he's still on the roster after the deadline then the organisation has failed.

How about let DLo be DLo? He is a good shooting guard (or combo guard) off the bench similar Jordan Clarkson. Maybe we package Nowell + Reid to get a starting point guard?

Jaylen Nowell and Naz Reid do not have substantial value, around the League. Minnesota isn’t going to net a starting-level Point-Guard for two young bench players that are upcoming Unrestricted Free-Agents.

Even an ideal version of what DLo can be isn't what this team needs.
A shoot first, mid-range heavy, middling efficiency, no-defence combo guard is not what the team needs. Maybe, and I stress maybe, that would be useful if Edwards wasn't here. But he is so Russell isn't needed.

Exactly what I was thinking when I saw “let DLo be DLo”.
Let DLo be DLo? Play no defense, too slow to get by anyone on offense, can’t consistently get to the cup and thus finish at the cup. The DLo who shys away from contact so he takes fade away shots from 8 ft? Most of the time hitting the front iron. The DLo who hasn’t figured out how to throw a lob pass to, well, pretty much anyone since he’s been here?
DLo is trash a nobody. He’s the guy, that if he was on someone else’s team, we’d say he only scored 30 because he played the wolves. That nobody who suddenly has one good game against us.
I was proud of him last season, he showed up to play defense even if his offense was inconsistent. Well that pride I had for him is gone, it went to LA.
He will be around until the deadline and then be shipped as an expiring. The only way to get value out of that is to take on a longer or longer contracts. Hopefully Hayward, he’s serviceable.
