Not to mention also the guy we invested our biggest trade splash maybe ever to.
I looked at the top 4 teams in both conference and don't see any of them use small ball and 5 out as the core offense. The only Championship team does that maybe GSW but they have 3 outliner players in Green, Curry and Thompson. Also KD is oversize for his position. Most successful teams use a mix of post, cuts, other stuff. Putting the contract and picks aside for a second, I feel we don't utilize Gobert enough on our offense. The dysfunction I see is more on our player's inability to find him for dunks and move the ball on in/out sets. We don't need to remove Gobert for Ant's offense, we need Ant to leverage Gobert on picks and passes. Ant also need a mid range game so teams can't clog up the middle. Gobert wasn't blocking Mitchell's offense in Utah.
Gobert didn't have a great game. It's a mix. Should had gotten more free throws. I see a few good pass from JMac and others to him. I think he could had been better on D. At the same time, his D on Tatum and ran back to grab the rebound was great. He is playing more out and helping on 3pt shooter which I had said before is good to see. At the same time, that will mean a couple less rebounds but that is OK.
While I agree, we don’t need to remove Rudy for Ant, I’ve noticed that Ant just explodes off the PnR with Rudy. Moving too fast to throw the lob.
Ant can get to the rim at will, and we want him to attack. In order for him to work with Rudy, he would have to slow down coming off the puck to allow Rudy time to get open. If Ant was getting the calls like he should, I don’t think not involving Rudy would be a problem.
I also think he doesn’t fully trust Rudy…honestly, it’s hard to went you have to throw one specific pads in order for him to catch it.
I would suggest Ant watches some old Harden film on how to manipulate the PnR and throw the lob. By until then, Rudy needs to get his from Kyle, Mike, and Jaden.
I do see the chemistry building though which is a far cry from where it began. Hopefully they keep it going
