Do we think he is the heir apparent if TC leaves in the offseason of 25-26?

He's been second in command since he got here two seasons ago. This is a promotion to help keep him happy, since he was an initial target for Charlotte in their president search this summer. He will lead a front office soon, whether here or elsewhere..

So you do think if TC leaves he gets the nod?

Almost certainly.

I listened to a post-draft podcast talking about Tim Connelly using the 2030 pick swap and 2031 pick, and a guy made the comment, “Of course he did. Connelly will be long gone by 2030, whether that’s GMing a different team, or sitting on a private island.”

I don’t know if it’s true for Connelly, but most GMs don’t last a long time in their jobs. Sure, the Wolves GM spot has been more chaotic than most, but except for a few exceptions, most teams don’t keep the same GM longterm. When a team fails, and all teams will because winning is cyclical, coaches and GMs are often easier to get rid of than players. I think that the odds are that this podcaster is correct. Winning now is good for the fanbase, and good for ARod and Lore as they sell off pieces of the rising value of the franchise, but it’s good for a GM too. If the Wolves decline in a few years, Connelly will be a very attractive GM for an asset-rich franchise to hire.

Very true. Interesting that Pop made the trade on the other end. Trades like this are rare because you are giving up something of value now, that more likely than not, you won’t be around to reap the benefit of. Pop is one of the few FO top guys that is an institution. That said, he is 75, and probably won’t be the POBO at 82 when he gets the pick. So it is rare that a POBO is in the position to make such a deal and not suffer for it.
