Yes, but it’s that plus the legal fees from an additional case and any prolonged legal battle (because if it flipped, ARod and Lore would certainly appeal).

In real life, people make business decisions on a cost-benefit basis. It’s math. If his lawyers say, “you have a 20% chance of winning an appeal, retaining the team and making $1.5 bil, but it will cost you $400 mil in legal fees and $100 mil in lux taxes” then you don’t do the deal. Estimated value of a win is $300 mil vs a cost of $500 mil.

This was about how low his chances of winning were, and whether he wanted to spend the last years of his life in court battles.

Your post says more about your failings than Taylor’s.

He didn’t appeal the arbitration because it would cost him money, after holding up a deal because the team increased in value after he agreed to sell.

So yes glad we agree he is a cheapskate.

He didn’t add the second highest luxury taxes in the nba because he was a cheapskate? Right?

He didn’t try to break the deal, and pay MORE of those luxury taxes, because he was a cheapskate? Right?

Any response to that? He tries to pay the extra $100 million, and you morons conclude .. “cheapskate?”

If you want to insult him, at least make insults that aren’t embarrassingly the exact opposite of what he just did in real life.

Wait wait wait even after spending this entire fiasco calling other people stupid and defending Taylor you are still going to call people morons? This day just keeps getting more and more goofy.

Well, I am not a Glen fan, mainly because if he had run his printing company like he ran the Timberwolves, it would have gone out of business early on. He did save the Wolves from moving, he did spend the money on a good team and knew that you needed great players to succeed ( Pd KG a TON of $$), but during down periods, he didn't hire the right people, didn't have the balls to get rid of those who were obviously stinking it up and had no idea how to get the Timberwolves out of the basement. Which really bothers me, because he did with the Lynx what he should have been doing with the Timberwolves. Hired good basketball people and let them do their job.

I think Lore & ARod will do just fine and I hope we can do two things very soon: 1) Retire KG's uniform and honor the man who brought so much fun to Minnesota in those years and 2) Win the NBA Championship. I think we are on the way there.

I think that’s a very fair eulogy for Glen Taylor.

I follow GMs and owners like the rest of you follow players. There are three things I want in an owner, that is less common than you might think:

1. Be loyal to your city and fanbase - and especially don’t relocate
2. Don’t use the team to just produce income, and be willing to spend when you have a chance at success.
3. Hire good people, and stay out of their way.

My frustration with baseline and Mattya isn’t just me defending Taylor in general. He was awful at the first half of #3, and he crippled the team for decades with his inability to hire good people. That is a fair criticism, and more than enough reason for people to hate the guy. But Taylor was never cheap, specifically this last season, and all the facts prove that. Calling him cheap is just making up crap to throw at a guy because they don’t like him, when there is an obvious other criticism they could make.

I should probably also mention that if this sale had happened five years ago, I’d probably be grabbing pitchforks with any of you. But now, I think Taylor’s biggest danger was finally solved. Going forward, he had agreed to let others make hiring decisions, rendering him unable to hurt the organization. I like Connelly and I like Finch, and the team has been very successful since Taylor stopped doing the hiring. He was reliable in all the other things I want in an owner, so he was the safe choice.

My fear though is that every factor of the three things I listed are now complete unknowns with new ownership. Nobody can honestly say what they WILL do, just what they should do. I’ll hold my breath, and hope for the best.

Shrink, that is all that we can do. It seems, looking at this from the outside, that Lore and company are going to do a good job and I think if there was much doubt of that that the board of governors would be more hesitant about the change of ownership, but what do I know, I'm way on the outside. Looking at what has been accomplished since they started the purchase, I think they are heading down a great path for us Timberwolves fans. Let's hope that the Wolves take care of business the next 5 games and bring some more playoff games to the Target center!!
