I forgot about the trade kicker! If its even 2% (most likely higher), then the deal works financially as a 1-for-1 (and we stash M Gasol).

Yes, the kicker costs us more, but it would still probably be less than Ratliff.

LAL keeps Sasha (who's been handy on occasion), and includes that 2nd, so maybe MIN gets lucky and can stash a guy in Europe. I'd do the Doctor's latest offer

Ratliff for Kwame + M Gasol + future LAL 2nd

Assuming the "trade checker" takes into account trade kickers, then the trade still doens't work under a 1-1. If it does not, then a 1-1 would be sweet since we save Taylor $ in the process.

good info shrink on negating the waive/buyout possibility.

Well if Gasol really does look a good prospect I could see this deal being a smart move. I just don't like Kwame.

I worked it out by hand, and it would take less than a 2% increase in Kwame's salary to crawl above the 125% + $100,000 barrier.

Unless the trade kicker is less than 2% (which I really doubt), neither the ESPN nor RealGM TradeCheckers calculate in trade kickers.

hmmm .. on further consideration, its quite possible that "outgoing" salary has to match.

In other words, regardless of the trade kicker, Kwame's outgoing salary needs to meet the requirements. I'll ask.

There was a lot of talk about that in the old KG trade thread, but I don't remember the conclusions any more.

It sounds like the pre-trade contract (no trade bonus) is used, so the deal doesn't work 1-for-1

I thought it appropriate to post this news here:

During the PHO-MIN game, the announcers said that Ratliff's goal is to be back on the court before the All Star Break.

He must be doing better than they hoped because a week ago they were shooting for after the break
