Gomes is productive, cheap, and isn't going to get a huge contract from anyone, plus we have the rights to match. I'm not saying he's a franchise cornerstone, but I think he's the type of player that we should keep. Doesn't need the ball to be effective, can play SF or PF, plays good D. He's arguably been our 2nd best player, imagine with the right moves if he's our 3rd or 4th best.

All in all we're looking at moving him for what would be a pick in the mid-teens. Who's going to be available that would be clearly better? Ogilvy or Thabeet might fit a need, but they're not going to be more productive players.

Absolutely! I've been saying all year that he is still good. He got less touches this year, and he has been injured a lot.

I just don't know if he can stay healthy, and the Suns (I speculate) will have to adjust their style. A style that has made them pretty successful the past few years. That's a gamble this late in the season.

The high octane offense that the Suns have been running the last few years is only successful in the regular season. Once the playoffs come around, teams bring their A-game on defense. There isn't as many fast break opportunities because teams get back faster to defend.

They have some time during the season to experiment with lineups. If Shaq is healthy and motivated, I can't think of any team that can match up with them in the playoffs. Shaq-Amare with Nash dishing is downright scary.

I'll predict it right now. The Suns will win the Championship. They'll beat the Lakers in the conference finals and the Pistons in the finals.

Shaq's better than a mediocre center, but he's nowhere near what he used to be.

Marion isn't guaranteed to be an expiring contract this year, now that he's in Miami. I don't think anybody's going to be willing to pay him $17 million, so he could stick around next year. There's a possibility that Miami only shaves a year off of Shaq's deal. Things could get a little interesting for them this year, since, aside from Marion, they've got around $15 million in expirings to deal.

Phoenix essentially says that their window closes with this group in 2010, when Shaq's, Nash's, Bell's, and possibly Amare's contracts all come up (a potential $55 million or so in expirings, shrink would have a field day). A Shaq/Amare/Hill/Bell/Nash starting 5 with Barbosa, Diaw and Brian Skinner off the bench might give them a better shot in the playoffs than Marion would have given them, but they'll have to tweak their style of play to make it work.

It's an interesting gamble, we'll find out in the playoffs if it was one worth taking.

ding ding ding.

PHX won win as many regular season games now

but if the gamble pays off and shaqs healthy and motivated in the playoffs, that team is scary.

Reports say he is down to 312; Shaq hasn't been anywhere near that weight since his first two seasons in the League. If he is really down to that weight, his knees could get a breather, and PHX could have a serious front court, and Amare could go back to his natural position instead of getting lit up by every decent Center in the L.

He'll still get lit up by every decent PF he guards. Amare's a bad defender no matter the position.

Gomes is my favorite player on the wolves right now. I still think we should consider dealing him.

Lets assume the ATL pick would be in the teens.

1. Its cheaper than Gomes will be.
2. We have it locked in longer at that cheaper rate.
3. Trading Gomes clears more money to perhaps keep Telfair or Craig Smith.
4. There's no guarantee we won't be outbid for Gomes anyway.
5. Gomes production this year is fun, but it does cost us ping pong balls.
6. If we really wanted Gomes back next season, we could still overpay to do it.

If I had my druthers, we'd keep Gomes, Telfair, and maybe even Smith. But that's risky, and we could probably get maximum value from a team like ATL who's clearly just committed to winning this season. Gomes is a nice fit for us -- he's a fantastic fit for them. I think the better longterm solution would be to offer Gomes to PHO for some deal including the ATL pick. You can't expect more than that from a rental.

Sometimes I don't even think you're human Shrink. You must be a 24 hour trade machine.

A computer program designed to play mathematically perfect fantasy basketball run amok? One of the next generation of genetically engineered super-gms?

I'm convinced shagadelic45 is actually a family of monkeys whose internet only gets the trade checker, so anything is possible.
